I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Nuclear & Security Clearance Requirements
This role supports a project within the nuclear industry, so previous experience within nuclear or another highly regulated/safety-critical environment is highly desirable.
Candidates must be eligible to obtain the required UK security clearance for the project and will be required to undergo the relevant security vetting process.
Previous experience of nuclear new-build projects would be particularly advantageous, although we welcome applications from engineers looking to move into the nuclear sector with transferable experience from other regulated or safety-critical industries.
Why Consider This Opportunity?
This is an opportunity to join a major UK nuclear infrastructure programme and contribute to the delivery of essential civil infrastructure as part of the Balance of Site team.
If you are a Civil Engineer with roads, highways or infrastructure experience and are interested in developing your career within the nuclear sector, we would be keen to hear from you.
