The Position: Senior Civil & Structural Engineer
We are seeking a Senior Engineer to join our growing Cardiff Rail/Bridges team, supporting the delivery of a diverse portfolio of rail and infrastructure projects across the UK. You’ll take ownership of selected projects, work closely with engineers and technicians, and be supported by senior leadership, with real scope to develop your career while contributing directly to the wider growth of the business.
We are ideally looking for an experienced Senior Engineer, but we also encourage applications from experienced Engineers who are ready to progress to Senior level, with structured support and mentorship provided.
The Cardiff office has worked on a range of exciting projects, including:
- Network Rail – including the Western Fabrics Programme at stations such as Exeter St Davids, Stroud, Maidenhead and Penzance, and the Wales Fabrics Programme at Abergavenny, Chester and Llandudno.
- Transport for Wales – station, building, canopy and structural refurbishment schemes across the Wales rail network.
- Ponts Mill Viaduct Refurbishment – permanent and temporary works design for strengthening a 150-year-old, 80m-long viaduct
- Principality Stadium, Cardiff – SCALE Attraction – permanent structural design delivered within a live, high-profile environment.
- Par Station Access for All – multidisciplinary rail project involving architecture, MEP, telecoms, geotechnics, fire and signalling.

Some of the main responsibilities of the Senior Structural Engineer will include:
- Lead the delivery of structural engineering packages and schemes across rail and wider infrastructure projects.
- Act as the technical lead for design activities, ensuring compliance with relevant standards, codes and client requirements.
- Develop and check structural designs for bridges, structural steelwork, reinforced concrete and other infrastructure assets.
- Manage project scope, programme, resources and technical risks to ensure successful project delivery.
- Undertake and oversee structural assessments, inspections and engineering analysis of existing and new-build assets.
- Liaise directly with clients, contractors and stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
- Mentor and support junior engineers, providing technical guidance and review.
- Contribute to bids, fee proposals, project planning and the continued growth of the rail engineering capability.

Required Profile
- Strong track record in the design and assessment of bridges, structural steelwork and reinforced concrete structures.
- Experience delivering projects within rail, nuclear, heavy industrial or major infrastructure environments.
- Strong understanding of structural assessment, inspection, analysis and new-build design.
- Proficiency in structural engineering software such as Tedds, Robot, Midas or similar analysis tools.
- Chartered Engineer status (MICE or MIStructE) or demonstrable progress towards Chartership.
- Confident in client-facing environments, with excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience supporting bids, fee proposals, resource planning and business development activities would be advantageous.
- Reside locally to Cardiff or be prepared to relocate, as this permanent role does not include travel expense coverage.
