Senior Civils & Drainage Engineer
Metro Rod Lancashire
Salary £36,000-£42,000 per year plus additional hours and benefits
Metro Rod provides drainage clearance, repair and maintenance services to commercial and domestic customers across the UK. We’re proud of our reputation for quality service and customer satisfaction, with customers across the Facilities Management, Social Housing, Property Management, Retail, Industrial and Leisure sectors.
Metro Rod Lancashire is creating a dedicated Civils & Installations division to deliver larger drainage replacement, excavation, pumping station, septic tank and sewage treatment projects generated through our existing drainage operation.
The role:
This is a varied, hands-on opportunity for an experienced civils and drainage professional who wants to play a key part in developing a new division. Initially, you’ll deliver projects on site, taking the lead on works, supporting other engineers and ensuring jobs are completed safely and to a high standard.
As the division grows, there is the opportunity to build a team around you and progress towards taking responsibility for running the division. This would suit an experienced senior engineer or site supervisor with strong practical knowledge, confidence leading jobs and the ambition to take the next step.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
