About the Business Unit: Energy Division

Our Energy team provides integrated engineering and project management services across the energy power generation and transmission sectors, including:

  • Hydropower
  • Nuclear
  • Waste
  • Renewable generation
  • Transmission & distribution networks

We deliver work from concept to decommissioning, supporting the global energy transition.


About the Role: Civil Engineer (Power Generation & HV Infrastructure)

We are seeking qualified Civil Engineers at mid-to-senior levels with expertise in structural design and analysis for our Civil & Structural Team in the UK. Credit to the organisation’s expansion, this role offers diverse project exposure, along with growth opportunities within the team.

You will contribute to the design of critical infrastructure, including:

  • Power plants
  • High-voltage (HV) substations / HVDC interconnector converter stations
  • High-voltage (HV) transmission cable systems

Key Responsibilities

Technical and Design Work

  • Lead/influence Front End Engineering Design (FEED) processes for structural elements
  • Prepare detailed Civil/Structural designs compliant with industry standards
  • Create drawings for planning applications and tender packages
  • Develop scheme costings for project feasibility assessments
  • Conduct condition and structural assessments of existing facilities to determine robustness and suitability for reuse

Project Management

  • Contribute to proposal writing related to structural engagements
  • Assist in project management tasks, including timeframe, budget, and quality control (as applicable)

Collaboration & Coordination

  • Collaborate within multidisciplinary teams, ensuring seamless integration of structural expertise with other technical domains
  • Participate in design coordination meetings and resolution of technical conflicts

Communication & Leadership

  • Present findings effectively to clients, cross-functional teams, or senior leadership
  • Mentor junior engineers where necessary

Requirements

Technical Expertise

  • Strong advanced Structural Engineering knowledge, including:
    • Load-bearing capacity & material behavior
    • Familiarity with Eurocodes, ASCE standards, and other design regulations
  • Hands-on experience with software tools:
    • SAP2000, ETABS, or similar for structural analysis
    • Knowledge of Building Information Modeling (BIM) technologies for project visualization
  • Proficiency in drafting software and producing technically compliant drawings

Work Experience

  • Minimum 3–5 years of professional structural engineering experience, preferably in energy infrastructure projects
  • Exposure to projects in power generation, substations, HVDC, or high-voltage transmission is advantageous
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills in deadlines-tight scenarios

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • Preferred: Chartered status or successful preparation towards membership with a UK engineering institution
  • Not mandatory (but advantageous): Professional Engineer (PE) or international equivalent licensure
