Working Arrangements:
- Hybrid and Flexible hours (8h including 1h lunch) between 0800 – 1800

ITIC has around 4,000 members in over 110 countries and insures a wide variety of professionals within the shipping and aviation industries including the top shipbrokers, ship managers, and ship agents in the industry; naval architects; surveyors; air charter brokers; and P&I correspondents amongst others.
Overview of Role:
An opportunity has arisen for an initial 12-month fixed-term cover position (with the possibility of a permanent role) within our team. We are seeking a driven and capable individual to support the team and business during this period. While the role is initially offered on a fixed-term basis, there may be the potential for the position to become permanent, subject to business needs and organisational requirements.
Senior Claims Executives and Legal advisors at ITIC are part of the Claims Team responsible for handling and management of claims and debt collection files, reviewing of contracts, preparation of loss prevention material, and provision of general legal support to the business.

Given the nature of the ITIC cover and membership, the claims of ITIC members are very varied and interesting, requiring understanding of the underlying dispute between the members’ clients or counterparts.
Main Responsibilities:
- Provide efficient, cost-effective claims handling services involving the insured services provided by ITIC;
- Appoint lawyers, surveyors, and correspondents worldwide and critically assess the advice received;
- Respond to members’ and brokers’ queries and carry out contract reviews;
- Deliver specific and general advice appropriate to the business needs of those we insure;
- Take ownership and responsibility for your caseload but seeking advice and guidance as needed;
- Assist account executives and the claims team with their claims handling and queries;
- Mentor more junior colleagues and conduct legal training;
- Provide claims data for re-insurers and others as required;
- Assist in the production of loss prevention and guidance materials;
- Support the Claims Director;
- Support business development activities;
- Support the wider management team on various legal issues.
Person Specification:
- Qualified in England and Wales (equivalent of at least 8 years PQE) working as a shipping lawyer in a law firm for at least four years;
- Experience handling arbitration and court claims, including high value claims;
- Experience handling wet and dry shipping disputes;
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written;
- Strong analytical and organisational skills;
- A second language would be an advantage but is not essential;
- Ability to develop good working relationships across all levels of seniority;
- Able to operate effectively within a team environment;
- A strong sense of responsibility and pro-activeness;
- Ability to work independently but also within a team environment;
- Effective at working under pressure and balancing competing workload demands.
