Senior Claims Handler Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Claims Handler to join our Amber Damage team in Belfast!

Role Overview

Reporting into the Claims Team Leader, you will handle liability disputes, make liability decisions, and manage challenging customer cases, ensuring compliance with relevant legislative requirements in your jurisdiction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Customer Interaction: Act as a point of contact for customers, third parties, and other claims areas to register claims and manage them to settlement stage.
  • Claims Management: Handle claims in a compliant and efficient manner, including notification, triage, investigation, fulfilment, negotiation, liability and settlement, payment, subrogation, and salvage.
  • Compliance and Efficiency: Handle claims within predefined authority limits and to predefined processes, procedures, and escalation points.
  • Case Management: Carry out and manage own case files, meeting daily, weekly, and monthly settlement and quality targets.
  • Mentorship: Provide advice and guidance to more junior claims handlers or newly appointed team members in your area.
  • Customer Service: Deliver excellent customer service, ensuring that customer expectations are met & exceeded on every call.
  • Escalation Handling: Deal effectively with referrals, escalations, and complaints where appropriate, including upward referral to relevant team leader.
  • Cost Management: Contain claim costs by implementing agreed processes and deploying all resources effectively (system and technical resources, other teams, liaising with Third Party Service providers, customers, solicitors).
  • Portfolio Management: Manage your file portfolio by ensuring consistency in estimating, minimising leakage and fraud.
  • Flexibility: Be flexible within the role to undertake other duties as assigned by your Team Manager to develop your skill set.

About You

  • Experience: 2 years+ experience in claims handling (essential)
  • Education: Third-level qualification or the equivalent combination of education and experience (essential)
  • Skills: Strong customer focus with ability to be tactful, empathetic, and operate with discretion when dealing with sensitive claims.
  • Knowledge: Experience in handling claims, including procedures and processes related to claim assessment is essential. Knowledge of applicable legal, liability, and quantum considerations within insurance claims is essential.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proven experience working with claims submitted by Third Party Representatives and applying proactive processes to effectively manage and control claim costs. Familiarity with claims management systems and tools, and experience working with legal and technical documentation.
  • Legal Compliance: As a precondition of employment for this role, you must be eligible and authorized to work in Ireland and/or the United Kingdom.
