Role: Senior Claims Handler
Location: Bristol (BS32)
Hybrid Working: 2 days office / 3 days home
Hours: Monday-Friday 09:00am-17:00pm
Salary: Up to £35,000 DOE + bonus + great benefits
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Claims Handler to join my client, as their claims team is growing. Working as part of a team of 8 the role is hybrid working based in Bristol.
Do you have experience working in Insurance Claims? Ideally looking after legal expenses
Have you worked within Personal Injury, Employment, Property or Consumer insurance claims?
Are you highly organised, detail-focused and do you enjoy managing cases from start to finish?
You'll be responsible for managing legal expenses insurance claims from initial assessment through to conclusion, ensuring customers receive an exceptional service while maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements, policy terms, and internal procedures.
You'll work closely with clients, solicitors, insurers, brokers, and corporate partners, playing a key role in delivering a high-quality claims service and supporting the continued success of our Legal Services operation.
Do you have excellent communication skills, a professional telephone manner and the ability to manage competing priorities within a fast-paced environment.
The Role as a Senior Claims Handler
You will be responsible for managing claims from initial notification through to conclusion, ensuring all claims are handled efficiently, accurately and in line with regulatory and company requirements. As well as Provide guidance and support to Claim Handlers where necessary to assist in the smooth running of the department.

Working closely with the team, customers, solicitors and key stakeholders, you'll play a vital role in delivering an outstanding claims experience while protecting both client and business interests.
Key Responsibilities of the Senior Claims Handler
- Review and assess legal expenses insurance claims to ensure they meet policy criteria.
- Refer eligible claims to panel solicitors in accordance with policy terms.
- Agreeing the appointment of solicitors and authorising initial indemnity limits.
- Decline claims where policy conditions are not met.
- Manage customer expectations throughout the claims journey, providing clear guidance on processes and timescales.
- Review client documentation and identify any additional information required to progress claim assessments.
- Maintain technical knowledge by taking ownership of continual professional development.
- Provide accurate policy guidance and support to clients, colleagues, corporate partners and solicitors.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with the team, clients, panel solicitors and corporate partners.
- Ensure authorised costs and claim accruals are updated accurately to reflect risk exposure.
- Manage billing processes across legal expenses insurance products, including reconciliation of data and timely payment processing.
- Review invoices received and challenge costs where appropriate.
- Ensure all activities are completed in line with internal procedures, company policies and regulatory requirements.
About You
Previous experience within legal expenses insurance products for home or motor insurance would be advantageous, but is not essential, as full training will be provided.

Do you have:
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage your own workload with minimal supervision.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- A professional and confident telephone manner.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
- An understanding of Data Protection regulations and general compliance requirements.
- The ability to work effectively as part of a team whilst also using your own initiative.
- Experience working to deadlines within a regulated environment.
- Commercial awareness and sound decision-making skills.
