Role: Senior Claims Specialist - Marine and Energy Liability

Location: London

Position: Full time


You will take responsibility for proactively handling Marine and Energy Liability claims within your authority, achieving the best outcomes for our clients and the business. You may also handle claims from other classes where required.

You will work with clients, brokers and colleagues to deliver a first-class claims service, following MS Amlin policies, procedures and our TRUST claims philosophy. You will deputise for claims management and leadership when requested.


About The Job

While there is rarely a typical day, here's a snapshot of some of the key parts of the job:

  • Lead the handling of Marine and Energy Liability claims from first notification through to settlement, considering subrogation and contribution where appropriate.
  • Set early best-estimate reserves, monitor developments, settle valid claims promptly and control costs throughout the claim lifecycle.
  • Follow MS Amlin procedures and controls, meet Lloyd’s, FCA, PRA and J-SOX requirements, and deliver against claims performance measures.
  • Share knowledge and work collaboratively with colleagues to improve claims handling and the service we provide.
  • Deputise for the claims manager and other senior claims team members when required.
  • Provide specialist advice to clients and the business to support decisions and help prevent or mitigate losses.
  • Analyse claims data, identify emerging trends and provide portfolio insights and reporting, including input to the reserving process.
  • Work with underwriters to develop the claims proposition, attract and retain business, and support client partners.
  • Build relationships with brokers and co-insurers, understand their requirements and use feedback to improve service delivery.
  • Contribute to claims team objectives and projects to modernise the claims service.
  • Apply delegated claims procedures and oversight requirements where relevant, working closely with service providers and experts.
  • Represent MS Amlin in the market and help strengthen our claims reputation.

In addition to your key responsibilities, you will be expected to:

  • Put claims resolution and the client experience at the centre of your work.
  • Communicate clearly, listen actively, collaborate and negotiate confidently, both in person and remotely.
  • Build trust and manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Make sound decisions and exercise judgement, including under time pressure.
  • Break down complex issues and identify trends, patterns and connections.
  • Take ownership of outcomes and work effectively in a changing, busy environment.
  • Continue developing your expertise, support colleagues and look for ways to improve the service as client and business needs evolve.

What You'll Need

Experience:

  • Proven experience of around eight years or more leading the market in resolving Marine and Energy Liability claims globally, with strong relationships with relevant experts, brokers and co-insurers.
  • A degree, CII or similar professional qualification is desirable, or a willingness to work towards one.
  • A firm understanding of London market principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of London market claims systems and Microsoft Office, including ECF and Excel.
  • Experience of account or portfolio management.
  • A willingness to travel and attend client events.
  • High-performance mentality – self-motivated, outcome-driven with energy and determination to succeed in a fast-paced environment of business transformation.
