Role Purpose
We are seeking an experienced and commercially minded Senior Broker to join our growing London & Specialty team.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and placing complex commercial insurance risks, delivering strategic insurance solutions to clients, and maintaining strong relationships with insurers, underwriters and key stakeholders. The role requires a highly motivated individual with excellent market knowledge, strong negotiation skills and the ability to provide expert guidance on a broad range of insurance products and risk management solutions.
As a senior member of the team, the Senior Broker will play an important role in supporting business growth, mentoring colleagues, and contributing to the ongoing development of the division.
Key Responsibilities
Client Relationship Management
- Act as a trusted adviser to a portfolio of commercial and corporate clients.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, insurers, underwriters and key stakeholders.
- Provide strategic insurance and risk management advice tailored to client requirements.
- Lead client meetings, renewal presentations and insurer negotiations.
- Support the retention and growth of existing client accounts through exceptional service delivery.
- Identify opportunities for cross-selling and introducing additional services across the business.
- Assist Account Executives and Directors in supporting key client relationships.
Broking and Placement
- Lead the placement of complex and high-value insurance programmes across a range of commercial classes.
- Prepare and present risks to insurers and underwriters, ensuring all information is accurate and comprehensive.
- Negotiate favourable terms, conditions and premiums on behalf of clients.
- Analyse insurer quotations and recommend the most appropriate solutions based on coverage, pricing and service.
- Deliver innovative placement strategies for challenging or unusual risks.
- Maintain a strong understanding of market conditions, insurer appetite and emerging trends.
- Ensure all placements comply with regulatory requirements and internal governance procedures.

Market Development
- Develop and nurture strong relationships with insurer and underwriting partners.
- Maintain regular contact with key markets to understand capacity, coverage developments and pricing trends.
- Represent the business at insurer meetings, market events and industry networking opportunities.
- Act as an ambassador for the organisation and promote its reputation within the insurance market.
Business Development
- Support the acquisition of new business opportunities through technical expertise and market engagement.
- Contribute to new business presentations, tenders and prospect meetings.
- Assist in delivering divisional revenue, retention and profitability objectives.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen and expand client relationships.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to achieve growth targets and strategic objectives.
Leadership and Mentoring
- Provide technical support, coaching and mentoring to junior brokers and support staff.
- Share market intelligence, technical expertise and best practice across the team.
- Support the onboarding and development of new colleagues.
- Promote a culture of professionalism, collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Act as a role model for company values and standards.
Compliance and Governance
- Ensure compliance with FCA regulations and internal policies and procedures.
- Maintain accurate and complete client and placement records.
- Adhere to all regulatory, compliance and conduct standards.
- Promote positive client outcomes in line with Consumer Duty requirements.
- Complete all mandatory training and professional development requirements.

Essential
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Significant experience of commercial insurance broking.
- Proven track record of placing and managing complex commercial insurance programmes.
- Strong insurer and underwriting market relationships.
- Excellent negotiation and influencing skills.
- Strong commercial awareness and client-focused approach.
- Ability to manage multiple stakeholder relationships effectively.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- Good understanding of FCA regulations and insurance market practices.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and insurance broking systems.
Desirable
- ACII qualified or actively working towards professional qualifications.
- Experience within the London Market and Specialty sectors.
- Experience mentoring or developing junior colleagues.
- Existing network of insurer and market contacts.
