Senior Clinical Embryologist
An exciting opportunity has arisen for two experienced Senior Clinical Embryologist to join the Assisted Conception Unit at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Trust.
We are seeking experienced, motivated and collaborative Clinical Embryologists/Reproductive Scientists with strong clinical and scientific expertise, a commitment to quality and patient safety, and a keen interest in senior leadership and the continued development of our service.
The successful candidates will join a large, highly specialised multidisciplinary fertility service, delivering a comprehensive range of fertility, andrology, fertility preservation and PGT services.
Both posts will combine advanced clinical embryology practice with senior scientific leadership, supervision and service development, alongside the delivery of general embryology duties.
Each post will have responsibility for overseeing a specialist area:
- Andrology: Providing scientific oversight and leadership of the andrology service, alongside general embryology responsibilities.
- Specialist Services: Overseeing specialised services, including fertility preservation and PGT, alongside general embryology responsibilities.
Both successful candidates will contribute to the day-to-day delivery, quality and development of laboratory services, ensuring high standards of clinical practice, patient safety and service delivery.
The post holder will support monitoring and assurance of embryology laboratory performance through key performance indicators and audit programmes, and continuous quality improvement initiatives. They will oversee performance monitoring, ensure compliance with HFEA requirements, and implement corrective and preventative actions to maintain high standards of safety, quality, effectiveness, and regulatory compliance. The role will support preparation for and participation in HFEA inspections, ensuring ongoing readiness and adherence to licence conditions and standards.

Working closely with the Embryology Team, the post holder will contribute to the strategic development of the fertility service, including service planning, transformation initiatives, and introduction of new technologies and laboratory practices. They will also contribute to business planning and service development proposals aimed at improving patient outcomes, efficiency, and service sustainability.
The post holder will maintain advanced clinical and technical competence in embryology, undertaking laboratory procedures for approximately 30% of their working time to ensure continued hands-on expertise and clinical credibility. As a member of the Embryology Senior Leadership Team, they will provide specialist advice to support strategic and operational decision-making and contribute to service planning, governance, audit, and risk management, ensuring safe, effective, and compliant service delivery.
