This 12-month post is designed for an ST4+ level trainee or equivalent to gain experience in and develop a sub-specialty interest.

About the Role

The Fellow will gain experience in various aspects of an agreed area of interest which will be supported by a consultant mentor.

About Us

The Royal Bolton Hospital Emergency Department continually seeks to develop and improve the service of emergency care to the local population. The Department has a strong educational background, with an established programme of undergraduate and postgraduate training as well as Consultant representation at local, regional and national level.

All Consultants have a variety of special interests that include Paediatric Emergency Medicine and Event Medicine.

Key Responsibilities

  • This post will involve working weekends and out of hours.
  • You will work in a safe, effective, timely fashion as part of the ED middle grade rota, which will include nights and weekends.
  • You will provide departmental leadership and guidance for junior staff and work closely with operational management, senior nursing colleagues and the consultant body to embed departmental improvements.
  • There will be an opportunity for the Fellow to lead quality improvement in the department in an area of their interest, such as:
    • Creation of a frailty/geriatric area of ED
    • “Silver” trauma
    • Dementia friendly care
    • End of life care
    • Supported discharge
