This 6-month post offers excellent experience and training in Paediatrics. East Lancashire Hospitals is the largest Acute Trust in the North West Region. The Paediatric Service is extremely busy with a wealth of clinical cases to learn from in the Acute and Outpatient settings. The case mix seen is very diverse due to the characteristics of the local population. We care for many children with a variety of complex and rare conditions as well as those with more common problems. The clinical experience we offer is ideal to help prepare for postgraduate examinations or for wider professional development.

  • Full shift rota covering 2 sites for Paediatrics (Neonatology excluded), which are new contract, ‘New deal’ and European Working Time Directive compliant. The post holder will supervise the Paediatric Junior Clinical Fellow’s work.
  • Participate in General Paediatric Ward Rounds with the Ward-based Consultant of the week.
  • Work within the team to provide on-going high quality care for inpatients and seeing referrals in the Children’s Observation and Assessment Unit or in the Emergency Department.
  • General Paediatric Clinics seeing new and follow-up patients under the supervision of a Consultant Paediatrician.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
