The Waterview Service may have just what you are looking for.
The Waterview service is a dedicated specialist Complex Emotional Needs (personality disorder service), serving the boroughs of Kensington Chelsea and Westminster and is the only such service of its kind in the Trust. We deliver both long-term Mentalization Based Treatment (MBT) and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) to individuals with high severity and complexity – often with multiple co-morbid conditions and history of high service use.
We are looking for a dynamic individual to join our small team and in return you will receive specialist training in psychological interventions to enhance your work and your career.

Main duties of the job
There is an opportunity for someone with an interest and passion for working with complex emotional needs, to join the established DBT pathway within the team. You will have the opportunity to access training in DBT and join the DBT group within the service.
Whilst your primary focus will be within the DBT Pathway of the service as the band 6 practitioner and a valued member of the MDT you will be involved in screening and assessing referrals for the service, liaising with referrers and providing comprehensive assessments and formulations.
This will be an opportunity to be a part of a service that also delivers MBT treatment and gain an understanding of the model of treatment. As a service we also provide consultations to other services, you will get the opportunity to be a part of these discussions and will work closely with CEN Pathways across KCW community mental health hubs.

Waterview Service team members are trained (training can be provided within post) in MBT and DBT models, and need the ability to apply a psychodynamic approach in maintaining therapeutic relationships and co-working within the team.
Whether you are an RMN, Social Worker, OT or Therapist, there will be space for you to practice your core profession and this will be actively encouraged by the team.

Clinical Responsibilities
- To undertake assessments of clients, identifying specific personality traits, emotional ability of service user to use groups and their capacity to work towards shared treatment goals.
- Facilitate and co-facilitate Dialectical Based Treatment (DBT) and Or Mentalised based treatment (MBT).
- To act as Lead Professional for an identified number of service users with severe personality disorder, establishing and maintaining a long-term supportive relationship.
- To conduct joint home visits, for engagement purposes or emergency assessments, as clinically indicated.
- To initiate and carry through safeguarding alerts where appropriate.
- To work with service users within intimate and emotionally intense individual and group sessions, where their behaviour may be unpredictable and challenging.
- To undertake risk assessments and manage risk as part of the treatment process to maintain a safe and therapeutically sensitive environment for all when faced with threats of verbal abuse, deliberate self-harm and violence to self and/or others.
- To assess the needs of carers, and work with them to best support the service user, where consent is given/appropriate.

The service, which has a long history and is the only such service within the Trust, has undergone exciting developments in the past 24 months.
The service also has a track record of involvement in clinical research and links with the Division of Psychiatry at Imperial College London, including recently participating on a feasibility study for Structured Psychological Support (SPS).

Education And Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Relevant core professional qualification and registration (e.g. Nursing, Occupational therapy, Social work, Psychology, Psychotherapy).
- Training / knowledge of therapies relevant to Complex Emotional needs (Personality Disorder), i.e. Mentalization Based Therapy (MBT) and/Or Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and application to practice.
Desirable criteria
- Substantial postgraduate training and/or qualifications to diploma level relevant to personality disorder or models of practice.
PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE Paid/unpaid Relevant To Job
Essential criteria
- Post (core profession) qualification experience in mental health including managing a caseload under Lead Professional Care.
- Experience of working therapeutically with people with Complex Emotional Needs.
- Experience of conducting psychologically informed assessment and compiling reports.
- Ability and experience in risk assessment and crisis management.
- Experience of co-facilitating groups.
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working in a dedicated personality disorder service.
