Role Overview

Based on relevant experience, this post can either be offered at a Band 8a or a Band 7/ 8a Preceptorship. We would welcome applications from final year trainee clinical or counselling psychologists. Appropriate supervision and development opportunities will be provided for the preceptorship.

About the Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic Senior Clinical Psychologist to join our Physical Health Psychology Team. The role offers specialist psychological care for people affected by cancer experiencing severe psychological distress and pre-surgical psychological assessment for people on the Tier 4 bariatric surgical pathway. Our service works closely with MDT colleagues in Cancer Care and Bariatrics at University Hospitals North Midlands.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide highly specialist psychological assessment and intervention through individual and group work, alongside consultation, training, and supervision.
  • Provide clinical supervision within the profession and cross-professionally offering Level 2 supervision and training to cancer clinical nurse specialists.
  • Develop leadership skills through referral and pathway management and service improvement initiatives working alongside the Consultant Clinical Psychologist and the Senior Service Manager.
  • Deliver a highly specialist clinical health psychology service to outpatients as an integral member of a multidisciplinary team comprising a Consultant Clinical Psychologist, Clinical Psychologists, and Psychological Therapists.
  • Provide psychological assessment, formulation, and evidence-based interventions to individuals and groups, supporting emotional adjustment and enhancing quality of life.
  • Work with people experiencing psychological distress and complex mental health difficulties associated with living with and beyond cancer, as well as individuals undergoing assessment and preparation for bariatric surgery.
  • Responsibilities will also include consultation, referral screening and triage, pathway and service development, clinical supervision, training, and risk assessment and management.

Additional Duties

  • Offer clinical supervision to band 7, trainees, and assistants.
  • Offer level 2 supervision and training to nursing colleagues across the relevant specialties at UHNM.
