Senior Clinical Scientist - Immunology

We are looking to recruit a Senior Clinical Scientist for the Immunology specialist discipline of Diagnostic Laboratories. The Immunology laboratory has undergone rapid expansion in the past 10 years and is now the second largest Immunology department in Scotland, we offer routine Immunology testing for NHS Tayside, Fife, Borders and Highland, with highly specialist tests offered across Scotland labs.

Location

The Diagnostics Laboratories are based in Ninewells Hospital, a large Teaching hospital and Medical School in Dundee, and a multidisciplinary laboratory at Perth Royal Infirmary.

Accreditation and Approvals

The department is a UKAS accredited Medical Laboratory and holds IBMS Training and NES training approval. The Immunology laboratory covers autoimmunity, allergy, serum proteins, flow cytometry and is undergoing an equipment refresh and tender process for new equipment. The team of 15 with a mixture of support staff, Biomedical Scientists and Clinical Scientists.

Role Responsibilities

The post holder will report to Clinical Lead for Immunology and will be responsible in supporting the delivery of the Clinical Laboratory Service responsible in collaboration with other senior managers. The post holder will have a considerable degree of autonomy and will be responsible for delivering professional, scientific and quality leadership. They will work as part of the operational management Team and report directly to the Clinical Lead for Immunology. They will also work closely with the Immunology Laboratory team, Associate Service Manager for Immunology, Clinical Laboratory Manager, other Service Managers, Training team, Quality Management team and Health and Safety Officer.

Key Requirements

  • Demonstrate team spirit, initiative, flexibility, enthusiasm, and strong positive leadership with the capability of delivering high-quality operational management and strategic direction.
  • Knowledge and skills to ensure full-service compliance with ISO15189:2022 standards.
  • Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council as a Clinical Scientist in Immunology with completed FRCPath Part 1 in Immunology or working towards achieving this within the next year.
