Senior Cloud DevOps Engineer

A public sector organisation is seeking Senior Cloud DevOps Engineers to join their Cloud Platforms capability, supporting the development, engineering, automation and operational management of secure AWS cloud environments. This is an opportunity to work within a highly secure and evolving cloud estate, delivering solutions that support the UK's international operations, digital transformation and cyber security objectives.

Reporting to the Head of Cloud Platforms, you will play a key role in developing, enhancing and supporting AWS cloud infrastructure and services within a secure government environment.

You will be responsible for designing, building, automating and operating AWS platforms using modern DevOps and Infrastructure-as-Code practices, whilst ensuring solutions are resilient, secure, scalable and cost-effective.

This is an initial 6-month contract based in Milton Keynes with hybrid working (3 days per week in the office, 2 days working from home. The daily rate for the role is up to £585 per day inside IR35 via an Umbrella company, due to the nature of the role the successful candidate will need to either have SC clearance or be eligible and willing to undergo the vetting process.

Key Responsibilities

AWS Platform Engineering & Operations

  • Develop, maintain and improve AWS cloud platforms and services.
  • Design and manage Infrastructure as Code solutions using Terraform, AWS CloudFormation and AWS CDK.
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation.
  • Support and optimise containerised and serverless solutions.
  • Ensure platform security, performance, resilience and availability.
  • Investigate and resolve platform-related incidents and service issues.
  • Deliver continual service improvements across cloud environments.

Cloud Infrastructure & DevSecOps

  • Deploy, configure and optimise AWS services and infrastructure.
  • Manage VPCs, Route 53, load balancers, security groups and VPN connectivity.
  • Implement monitoring, logging, alerting and observability tooling.
  • Support EKS, ECS, Lambda and cloud-native architectures.
  • Implement DevSecOps best practices including automated testing, security scanning and release management.
  • Apply AWS Well-Architected Framework principles and secure-by-design practices.

Experience

  • Proven experience developing and supporting AWS production environments.
  • Strong Infrastructure as Code experience using: Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, AWS CDK
  • DevSecOps and CI/CD pipeline implementation experience.
  • Strong AWS networking knowledge including: VPCs, VPNs, Route 53, Security Groups, Load Balancing
  • Experience with: Amazon ECS, Amazon EKS, Kubernetes, Docker, AWS Lambda
  • Event-driven architecture experience using: EventBridge, SNS, SQS, Kinesis
  • AWS IAM and cloud security expertise.
  • Monitoring, logging and observability platform experience.
  • Knowledge of Zero Trust and secure-by-design principles.
  • Experience working in regulated or secure environments.
  • Agile and DevOps delivery experience.

Certifications

Candidates must hold at least one of the following:

  • AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect (Associate or Professional)
  • AWS Certified SysOps Administrator – Associate
  • AWS Certified Developer – Associate
  • HashiCorp Terraform Associate
