About this Role

Location: Newbury or Paddington (hybrid)

We are seeking a Senior Cloud Engineer to design, build and operate the cloud infrastructure and platform services that power Vodafone’s next-generation digital and technology capabilities. In this role, infrastructure is treated as software, delivered through code, testing, version control and automated deployment pipelines. You will work closely with Cloud Architects, Infrastructure & Developer Platform Leads and engineering teams to deliver secure, reliable, scalable and observable cloud environments. The position combines deep technical expertise with engineering ownership, supporting AI-native engineering practices and driving continual improvement in automation, platform reliability and operational excellence.

What you’ll do

  • Design, build and operate cloud infrastructure and platform services using infrastructure-as-code and automation.
  • Deliver secure, scalable, reliable and operationally ready cloud environments for engineering teams.
  • Implement and maintain infrastructure-as-code modules, automated provisioning processes and deployment pipelines.
  • Build observability, monitoring, alerting and operational controls into infrastructure solutions from the outset.
  • Support production environments through incident investigation, troubleshooting and root-cause resolution.
  • Apply security, identity, compliance and governance controls across all infrastructure components.
  • Support AI-native engineering practices through infrastructure automation and platform enablement.
  • Improve reliability, consistency and maintainability through reusable engineering patterns and automation.
  • Contribute to cloud cost optimisation initiatives through right-sizing, automation and platform enhancements.
  • Identify technical risks and escalate architectural concerns where appropriate.
  • Collaborate with and mentor engineers through technical reviews, knowledge sharing and engineering best practices.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
