Senior Cloud Engineer
Location: Stoke-on-Trent, UK
Working Model: Hybrid - 3 days onsite
Employment Type: Permanent / Full-Time (3 days onsite)
Salary: £65,000 per annum

About the Role

We're looking for a Senior Cloud Engineer to provide technical leadership across secure, scalable and cost-effective cloud infrastructure within a defence-focused environment.
You'll combine hands-on cloud engineering with automation, DevSecOps, cost optimisation, risk management and team mentoring, helping improve both cloud services and engineering capability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy and manage secure cloud infrastructure across public, private and hybrid environments
  • Develop Infrastructure-as-Code and reusable deployment patterns
  • Automate cloud operations to improve efficiency and reduce manual work
  • Lead cloud training, mentoring and certification initiatives
  • Support technical risk assessments, security and governance
  • Drive cloud cost optimisation and resource efficiency
  • Build automation for provisioning, monitoring, patching and configuration
  • Integrate infrastructure into CI/CD and DevSecOps workflows
  • Contribute to service improvement, operational reviews and incident analysis

Required Experience

  • Extensive cloud infrastructure engineering experience in secure, regulated or classified environments, ideally Defence, Government or Critical Infrastructure
  • Strong expertise with Azure and Oracle cloud services
  • Strong Infrastructure-as-Code experience, such as Terraform, CloudFormation or ARM
  • Scripting experience with PowerShell, Python or Bash
  • Understanding of cloud security and compliance frameworks such as NIST 800-53, JSP 440 or ISO 27001
  • Strong communication, documentation and mentoring skills

Nice to Have

  • Active SC / DV Clearance
  • Azure, AWS or GCP professional cloud certifications
  • MOD Cloud or air-gapped environment experience
  • DevSecOps tooling such as GitLab, Jenkins or Ansible

You'll have the opportunity to take a senior technical role within a UK sovereign technology organisation supporting the Defence sector, with responsibility across cloud architecture, automation, security and capability development.
