Senior Cloud Engineer

Location: Hybrid
Salary: £92,000 + Benefits
Contract: Permanent

A leading organisation is looking for a Senior Cloud Engineer to join its Cloud & Hosting function, supporting the design, delivery and continuous improvement of secure, scalable and resilient cloud infrastructure across a complex international environment.

This is a senior technical role responsible for cloud engineering, infrastructure automation, security, networking, and operational resilience across Microsoft Azure and AWS, with exposure to wider hybrid and hosting technologies.

Key Responsibilities & Skills

  • Design, implement and continuously improve secure, scalable and highly available cloud and hybrid infrastructure.
  • Provide technical expertise across Azure, AWS, cloud networking, security, identity, connectivity, compute, storage, backup and disaster recovery.
  • Develop and maintain cloud engineering standards, reference architectures and reusable platform patterns.
  • Lead Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automation using Terraform, CI/CD pipelines and scripting.
  • Design and manage cloud networking, including routing, firewalls, VPN, private connectivity, load balancing and network security.
  • Support cloud security, governance, compliance, platform hardening and technical risk management.
  • Lead the investigation and resolution of complex infrastructure incidents and drive continuous improvements in reliability and performance.
  • Work with internal technology teams and managed service providers to deliver and operate enterprise cloud services.
  • Contribute to cloud transformation, migration and modernisation programmes, including FinOps and cloud cost optimisation.
  • Act as a senior technical SME, providing guidance on emerging technologies, engineering standards and cloud platform strategy.

Experience & Attributes

  • Strong experience in enterprise cloud engineering, particularly Azure and/or AWS.
  • Deep understanding of cloud networking and security, including firewalls and hybrid connectivity.
  • Proven experience with Terraform/IaC, CI/CD and infrastructure automation.
  • Strong scripting skills in Python, PowerShell, Bash or equivalent.
  • Experience operating cloud environments at scale, including incident, change and service continuity management.
  • Strong understanding of cloud security, IAM, encryption and governance.
  • Confident working with technical stakeholders, suppliers and managed service providers.
  • Highly self-motivated, analytical and comfortable working in complex, fast-moving environments.
  • Relevant cloud or infrastructure certifications such as AWS, Azure, Terraform or Cisco would be good to have.
