About the Role
Our client is a fast-growing London technology business serving the financial services sector, and is building its own data centre on Apache CloudStack. They need an experienced CloudStack engineer to help design, build and own the private cloud platform at its core. You'll shape the architecture from day one, make key technical decisions and set the standards the platform runs on.
What you'll be doing
- Designing and deploying Apache CloudStack architecture across zones, pods, clusters and hosts, including management server HA.
- Building and running KVM host infrastructure and primary and secondary storage, with Ceph or similar.
- Designing CloudStack networking: advanced zones, VLAN or VXLAN isolation, virtual routers and VPCs.
- Owning platform reliability, upgrades, capacity planning and performance.
- Leading incident investigation across CloudStack, Linux, storage, networking and hardware.
- Automating builds and operations using the CloudStack API, Ansible, Terraform or CloudMonkey.
- Mentoring other engineers and contributing to infrastructure decisions with technical leadership.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
