Role Purpose

The Intelligent Substation programme is developing a portfolio of cloud and edge solutions that enable operational technology and substation data to be securely acquired, contextualised and used for asset monitoring, condition assessment, operational analysis and future AI-enabled capabilities.

We are seeking a senior, hands-on Software Engineer to join a small multidisciplinary team responsible for maintaining, supporting and further developing these solutions. The role will focus on containerised applications, Azure Kubernetes Service, customer-managed edge Kubernetes environments, DevSecOps automation and the integration of cloud and operational technology platforms.

The successful candidate must be comfortable working across application code, containers, deployment pipelines and production environments. This is an engineering role requiring direct contribution to code, configuration, troubleshooting and delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain and support cloud-native applications and microservices deployed to AKS and distributed edge Kubernetes environments.
  • Design and build secure, production-quality services using.NET and C#, with Python used where appropriate for automation, data processing and integration.
  • Containerise applications and manage their configuration, dependencies, deployment and lifecycle across cloud and edge environments.
  • Develop and maintain GitHub Actions pipelines covering build, test, security scanning, packaging, release and deployment.
  • Implement GitOps-based deployment and configuration management using Flux v2.
  • Support Azure Arc-enabled Kubernetes and customer-managed Kubernetes platforms such as K3s, Red Hat OpenShift or equivalent.
  • Create and maintain infrastructure and application deployment automation using Terraform and associated scripting.
  • Develop APIs, integration components and event-driven services connecting Azure PaaS, IoT, data and operational systems.
  • Implement automated testing, code-quality controls, dependency management and DevSecOps practices throughout the software lifecycle.
  • Establish effective application observability using logs, metrics, traces, dashboards and alerts.
  • Investigate and resolve application, container, pipeline and deployment issues across distributed cloud and edge environments.
  • Produce clear technical documentation, operational procedures and support handover materials.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure, network, security, data, architecture and electrical transmission domain specialists.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
