About the Role

Join UKTL and help build the secure, resilient platforms that support the UK's telecommunications security research.

We're looking for a Senior Platform Engineer with strong experience in cloud and working across infrastructure, automation, Linux and container technologies. You'll play a key role in designing, building and supporting modern platforms used by our research and engineering teams.

What You'll Do

  • Engineer and support Linux-based infrastructure across on-premises and cloud environments.
  • Manage virtualisation, container platforms and storage technologies.
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure-as-Code solutions.
  • Automate operational processes using tools such as Terraform, Ansible and scripting languages.
  • Implement platform security, RBAC, secrets management and monitoring solutions.
  • Troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues and provide expert technical support.
  • Collaborate with security researchers, engineers and operational teams to deliver reliable, scalable platforms.

About You

What You'll Bring

  • Strong Azure platform engineering experience.
  • Expertise in Docker, Kubernetes, virtualisation and cloud technologies (particularly Azure).
  • Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code, automation and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Knowledge of enterprise technologies such as Citrix, monitoring and observability tools.
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving and communication skills.

Desirable

  • Experience with OpenStack.
  • Understanding of telecoms technologies, including 4G, 5G, RAN or broadband networks.
  • Experience working in secure or research-led environments.

Successful applicants will be expected to attend our Birmingham office a minimum of two days per week. Our state-of-the-art facilities provide an excellent environment for collaboration, and we encourage colleagues to make the most of our on-site workspace.

Security Clearance

Due to the nature of our work, candidates must be eligible to obtain and maintain SC clearance with no restrictions. Existing SC clearance would be advantageous, although candidates without clearance are encouraged to apply. Employment cannot commence until the required clearance has been successfully granted.

Salary

Salary for UKTL specialist roles is benchmarked against the external market and may include additional compensation to recognise in-demand technical expertise.

We recruit based on capability, technical excellence and potential rather than simply years of experience. As a result, candidates may be considered for different grades depending on their skills, experience and technical depth.

During the interview process, we'll discuss how your experience aligns with our grading framework and provide an indication of the salary range associated with the most appropriate level. This ensures you have a clear understanding of expectations and opportunities from an early stage.
