Job Description

Purpose of the Role

To extract meaningful insights from complex data sets, developing robust decision models, and presenting actionable recommendations to stakeholders across the departments.

Accountabilities

  • Identification and extraction of relevant data from various internal and external sources.
  • Performing sensitivity analysis and scenario planning.
  • Monitoring and evaluation of the performance of existing models.
  • Development and implementation of data quality control procedures.
  • Building and validation of quantitative models to support decision-making across different business areas.

  • Lead a team performing complex tasks, using well developed professional knowledge and skills to deliver on work that impacts the whole business function.   • OR for an individual contributor, they will lead collaborative assignments and guide team members through structured assignments, identify the need for the inclusion of other areas of specialisation to complete assignments. They will identify new directions for assignments and / or projects, identifying a combination of cross functional methodologies or practices to meet required outcomes.
  • Consult on complex issues; providing advice to People Leaders to support the resolution of escalated issues.
  • Identify ways to mitigate risk and developing new policies/procedures in support of the control and governance agenda.
  • Take ownership for managing risk and strengthening controls in relation to the work done.
  • Perform work that is closely related to that of other areas, which requires understanding of how areas coordinate and contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the organisation sub-function.
  • Collaborate with other areas of work, for business aligned support areas to keep up to speed with business activity and the business strategy.
  • Engage in complex analysis of data from multiple sources of information, internal and external sources such as procedures and practises (in other areas, teams, companies, etc) to solve problems creatively and effectively.
  • Communicate complex information. 'Complex' information could include sensitive information or information that is difficult to communicate because of its content or its audience.
  • Influence or convince stakeholders to achieve outcomes.

Join us as a Senior Commercial Analyst - Cards Existing Customer

In this commercially focused role, you will play a key role in developing, delivering and optimising strategies across our existing credit card portfolio.

You will use customer, portfolio and product insight to identify opportunities that improve customer outcomes, engagement and portfolio performance. You will translate complex analysis into clear recommendations, helping shape customer strategies and influencing decisions that drive sustainable commercial value.

You will monitor performance, assess risks and opportunities, and support the delivery of activities through appropriate governance and control processes.

Requirements

To be successful as a Senior Commercial Analyst – Cards Existing Customer, you should have:

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex datasets, identify performance drivers, uncover commercial opportunities and translate insight into action.
  • Extensive experience querying, manipulating and analysing large datasets using SAS, SQL or Python. SAS experience is desirable, as it is a key analytical tool used within the team.
  • Experience in Credit Cards or Consumer Lending, with a solid understanding of portfolio management and customer strategy, and the ability to influence business decisions that improve portfolio performance and customer outcomes.
  • Great commercial awareness, with an understanding of how customer behaviour, product usage, risk and profitability interact to drive business outcomes.
  • The ability to translate data into clear, commercially focused recommendations that support decision making and portfolio optimisation.
  • Experience monitoring portfolio performance through the development of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), dashboards and management information using tools such as Excel and/or Power BI, alongside identifying opportunities to improve customer engagement, balances, spend, retention and profitability.
  • Experience developing, assessing or optimising customer strategies, including customer segmentation, engagement, retention, balance growth, customer value or other portfolio management activities.
  • Good communication skills, with the ability to present insight clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Great stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across product, analytics, risk, operations, marketing and compliance teams to shape and deliver portfolio strategies.
  • A good understanding of risk, controls and governance, with the ability to ensure activity is delivered in line with required processes.

Highly Valued Skills

  • Experience working within financial services or another regulated environment.
  • Experience supporting credit cards, lending, or another customer product with exposure to commercial, portfolio or product decision making.
  • Solid understanding of portfolio Profit & Loss (P&L) drivers, commercial performance optimisation, forecasting and risk/reward trade-offs.
  • Experience developing hypotheses, running test-and-learn activity and evaluating results to inform customer and portfolio strategy.
  • Degree or equivalent experience in Mathematics, Engineering, Data Science, Finance, Economics or a related analytical discipline.

You may be assessed on the key critical skills relevant for success in role, such as risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen, strategic thinking and digital and technology, as well as job-specific technical skills.

Location

This role will be based in Edinburgh or Glasgow.
