World Tennis

World Tennis is the global governing body of tennis. Founded in 1913, its purpose is to ensure the long-term growth and sustainability of the sport, delivering tennis for future generations in association with its 214 national and regional member associations. World Tennis oversees the rules and regulations that govern international and national competition.

World Tennis is responsible for the worldwide development of tennis through its highly regarded Development Programme, its Science and Technical department which monitors equipment and technology, and its Officiating department which oversees the education and advancement of officials. World Tennis is the owner and co-owner of the two largest annual international team competitions in tennis, the Davis Cup and Billie Jean King Cup (BJKC) by Gainbridge and manages the Olympic and Paralympic Tennis Events on behalf of the IOC and IPC. World Tennis organises over 3,500 men’s, women’s and junior tournaments on the World Tennis Tour, World Tennis Beach Tour, UNIQLO Wheelchair Tennis Tour and the World Tennis Masters Tour. World Tennis upholds the highest standards of integrity and is a partner in the International Tennis Integrity Agency.

Overview of the Department

The Commercial department is responsible for driving the commercial growth of World Tennis through the development, management, and delivery of global partnerships. The team works with a unique portfolio of assets across major events, professional and junior player pathways, and digital products, creating opportunities for partners to engage with the global tennis community. Working across areas including broadcast, digital, hospitality, fan engagement and community programmes, the team develops and delivers bespoke partnership solutions that maximise impact and support the long-term success of the sport.

The Role

The Senior Commercial Growth Executive is a key member of the Commercial team, responsible for generating revenue by developing and selling integrated partnerships across a variety of World Tennis properties. The Senior Commercial Growth Executive will be responsible for developing a global pipeline, establishing and building relationships with brands to reach annual revenue targets.

This role will lead on the full sales cycle, including prospecting, outreach, presenting, creating sales materials and closing opportunities across all World Tennis properties, with the support of the Head of Commercial Growth. World Tennis properties you will be selling include the Davis Cup, Billie Jean King Cup by Gainbridge, Uniqlo Wheelchair Tennis Tour, Beach Tennis, Junior Tennis as well as other opportunities across the business such as those across digital and new media.

Key Responsibilities

New Business Development

  • Responsible for developing and maintaining a pipeline of new leads across all World Tennis properties
  • Lead end-to-end sales activity and contribute to revenue targets by developing and selling integrated partnerships
  • Pursue prospects through outreach, development and delivery of sales presentations, negotiation and contract execution with the support of the Head of Commercial Growth
  • Establish and build relationships with senior external contacts from global brands
  • Develop strong and trusted day-to-day links with agency contacts to identify local opportunities in key World Tennis markets
  • Lead on the creation of sales materials, proposals and presentations for key sales areas
  • Extract and analyse data to make effective, efficient decisions about prospect strategy and process

Innovation and Ideation

  • Actively contribute innovative thinking and fresh ideas that help lead to new revenue generating opportunities and contribute to cross-functional working groups consisting of key internal stakeholders (e.g., Digital, IT, Broadcast etc.)
  • Look to incorporate AI and other best in class sales tools, materials and initiatives into the sales process to improve efficiency and time management
  • Ability to leverage data and insights to create compelling sales narratives

CRM Management

  • Ownership and responsibility for management of the departmental Salesforce platform
  • Produce clear and concise updates on sales progress to share with Senior Management Team

As the needs of the business can evolve rapidly this role may change accordingly, therefore this document should be viewed as guidelines which are subject to change.

You will have – Essential

  • Circa 2-3 years’ experience in sales, partnerships and/or business development – preferably in sports
  • Excellent relationship management, interpersonal and negotiation skills
  • A track record of successfully building and maintaining a sales pipeline
  • Confident verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage a busy and varied workload
  • Experience in generating leads and managing through to conversion, ensuring strong relationship management at all stages
  • Experience with CRM management and creating presentations
  • Ability to craft compelling narratives for external audiences
  • Experience working directly with the most senior levels of an organisation and with client organisations, and the ability to effectively strategise and engage various groups and constituents
  • The ability to work collaboratively and effectively across multiple internal teams
  • Ability to extract and analyse data to make effective, efficient decisions about prospect strategy and process
  • Flexibility - international travel is part of the role.

We currently work to a hybrid model requiring a mandatory minimum of 3 days per week working in the office based in Southwest, London and as part of this, Mondays and Tuesdays are ‘anchor days’ where all staff are obliged to work from the office.
