About UK Industrial Fusion Solutions (UKIFS) Ltd
The UK Government established UK Industrial Fusion Solutions (UKIFS) Ltd—a subsidiary of UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA)—to drive the delivery of fusion energy through the STEP (Spherical Tokamak for Energy Production) programme, aiming for a prototype fusion plant operational by ~2040.
UKIFS is pioneering a revolutionary global sector with an estimated £7tn annual market value, integrating engineering, industrial partnerships, and innovative supply chains.
The role will be based in West Burton, Nottinghamshire, with:
- Permanent position at Grade I
- Base salary of £64,115 (non-contractual specialist allowance of up to £7,000 for MCIPS/RICS certifications)
- Must complete BPSS, including DBS checks (SC clearance consideration may arise)

The Role: Senior Commercial Manager

Core Responsibilities
1. Contract Strategy & Delivery
- Draft, negotiate, and execute high-value supply, engineering, and service agreements
- Align contracts with UKAEA’s regulatory standards and programme goals
- Own end-to-end contract lifecycle management (strategy, execution, post-delivery)
- Identify/mitigate risk (legal/financial/technical) while competing time/budget
2. Team Leadership
- Mentor/coach a cross-functional commercial team (UKIFS staff + Industry Partners)
- Foster global supplier partnerships
- Drive data/information-sharing systems for supplier performance analysis
- Work proactively to ease integration across Function Partner roles
3. Stakeholder Engagement
- Cultural ambassador for UKIFS values in negotiations
- Escalate contract disputes with Legal, Technical, Procurement teams
- Train internal teams on best practices in contract management
- Rely on an influencing culture and truth-telling mentality

Requirements
Essential
- MCIPS or RICS qualification / equivalent
- 10+ years demonstrating strategic contract leadership in complex project environments (e.g. infrastructure, industrial)
- Junior expertise in NEC contracts, procurement, or commercial compliance
- Evidence of statute compliance across regulated projects
- Proven ability to lead commercial teams (SME+) and deliver strategic outcomes
- Track record of long-term stakeholder collaboration
Preferred
- Accredited Government Commercial Practitioner certification
- Previous Complex Partnership Contracts or Joint Venture governance
- Public sector & regulation alignment knowledge
