Senior Commercial Manager (Main Works Civils)
Location: London, UK (Hybrid with occasional Site Travel)
Compensation: Competitive base salary + benefits + industry leading bonus
About the Role
Our client, a leading developer in the UK energy infrastructure sector, is seeking an experienced Senior Commercial Manager to take ownership of a major Main Works Civils package on a landmark infrastructure project valued at approximately £750m. This is a rare opportunity to play a key commercial leadership role on a nationally significant project as it transitions from Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) into construction delivery.
The successful candidate will provide commercial leadership across a substantial civils scope including tunnels, shafts, earthworks and dam structures, while managing key contractor relationships and driving commercial performance throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead the commercial management of a major civils package valued in excess of £100m.
- Manage commercial performance across complex heavy civils works including tunnels, shafts, earthworks and associated infrastructure.
- Oversee and mentor a team of Quantity Surveyors and Senior Quantity Surveyors, with approximately 3-4 direct reports.
- Administer and manage NEC4 ECC Option C (Target Cost) contracts.
- Work closely with contractors during the transition from ECI into early works and full project execution.
- Support commercial strategy, risk management, change control and cost forecasting activities.
- Drive best-value outcomes through robust commercial management and contractor engagement.
- Provide senior-level reporting and visibility of project commercial performance to key stakeholders.
- Support final contract negotiations and ensure commercial readiness for construction delivery.
- Attend the London office regularly and visit project sites and contractor locations as required.

Experience & Qualifications
- 10+ years' experience within commercial management, quantity surveying or commercial leadership roles.
- Strong contractor-side background, ideally having progressed through a Principal Contractor environment from QS through to Commercial Manager level.
- Demonstrable experience managing major civils contracts valued at £100m+.
- Significant heavy civils experience including earthworks, tunnelling, shafts, dams or similarly complex infrastructure projects.
- Strong expertise administering NEC4 Engineering and Construction Contract (ECC) Option C Target Cost contracts.
- Proven experience across the full project lifecycle including procurement, contract negotiation, project execution and final accounts.
- Experience leading and developing commercial teams.
- Strong stakeholder management and commercial negotiation skills.
- Chartered status (MRICS or equivalent) is highly desirable.
- Previous experience within the energy, utilities, rail, major infrastructure or water sectors would be advantageous.
