The Business

Our client is an established international food ingredients business with a long-standing reputation for quality, technical expertise and innovation within the Bakery and Food Manufacturing industries. Operating as part of a substantial global group, the UK business combines international scale, manufacturing capability and technical resources with the agility, specialist knowledge and customer focus of an entrepreneurial ingredients partner.

Their portfolio spans a broad range of Bakery Ingredients, Functional Ingredients and Added Value Solutions, supporting customers across Industrial Bakery, Food Manufacturing, Wholesale and associated B2B markets.

But their proposition extends far beyond simply supplying ingredients.

The business works alongside its customers to understand their products, manufacturing processes and future ambitions. Through the combination of commercial expertise, bakery knowledge, technical capability and NPD, they help customers solve problems, improve existing products and create entirely new solutions.

Whether the opportunity involves performance, taste, texture, functionality, shelf life, manufacturing efficiency, innovation or the development of a completely new product, the ambition is to become a genuine solutions partner to the customer. With an established customer base, significant technical capability and clear ambition for further UK growth, they are now looking for an outstanding Senior Commercial Manager to help shape and deliver the next phase of their development.

The Opportunity

As Senior Commercial Manager, you will take significant commercial ownership across the UK Bakery Ingredients and Food Manufacturing markets. This is a role built around Customer Development, Commercial Ownership, Innovation and Growth.

You will inherit established customer relationships with significant potential for further development, while simultaneously identifying new customers, applications and opportunities across the wider ingredients landscape. Critically, this is not simply about selling more of an existing ingredient.

You will seek to understand how your customers manufacture, what they are trying to achieve, where their challenges exist and how the wider capabilities of the business can create additional value.

That could mean expanding an existing ingredient relationship into adjacent categories, introducing a new functional solution, working with technical teams to solve a manufacturing challenge or collaborating with the customer to develop something completely new.

You will operate as the commercial link between the customer and the wider organisation, bringing together Technical, NPD, Operations, Supply Chain and Commercial expertise to turn opportunities into profitable long-term partnerships.

For someone who genuinely understands the ingredients industry, this provides an exciting opportunity to combine technical credibility, commercial leadership and significant autonomy.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Importantly, you do not need to come from a traditional full-service Bakery Ingredients business.

We are equally interested in candidates whose individual ingredients, products or technical solutions are relevant to Bakery, Sweet Bakery, Confectionery or wider Food Manufacturing applications.

Relevant backgrounds could therefore include:

  • Bakery ingredients, bakery systems, mixes, premixes, improvers and functional bakery solutions
  • Flour, milling, grain ingredients, yeast, fermentation and enzymes
  • Fats, oils, shortenings and speciality fats. Chocolate, cocoa, compounds, fillings, icings, inclusions, toppings and decorations
  • Flavours, colours, extracts, fruit ingredients and taste solutions. Starches, emulsifiers, stabilisers, fibres, sweeteners, texturisers and shelf life solutions
  • Dairy ingredients, proteins and other functional ingredient systems
  • Clean label, nutritional, plant based and functional food ingredients
  • Coatings, crumbs, sauces, savoury ingredients, herbs and spices
  • Speciality food ingredients and ingredient distribution businesses supplying Bakery and Food Manufacturing customers

What matters most is that you understand the B2B ingredients environment, can engage credibly with food manufacturers and have the commercial ability to translate customer requirements, technical capability and market opportunities into profitable growth.

Alongside this, you will ideally bring:

  • A strong track record of managing and developing B2B customer relationships
  • The commercial instinct to identify opportunities beyond what a customer currently purchases
  • Experience developing new business alongside growing established accounts
  • Strong commercial and financial capability including pricing, margin and P&L management
  • The credibility to engage equally effectively with commercial and technical stakeholders
  • An understanding of how ingredients influence finished product performance and manufacturing requirements
  • Strong cross-functional capability, bringing Commercial, Technical, NPD, Operations and Supply Chain teams together around customer opportunities
  • A proactive and entrepreneurial approach with the ability to turn customer challenges into commercially viable solutions
  • High levels of personal ownership, integrity and accountability

Above all, we are looking for someone who is genuinely excited by Bakery, Ingredients, Innovation and Commercial Growth.

Someone who doesn't simply ask, “What does this customer buy from us today?” but instead thinks, “What else could we help this customer create tomorrow?”

For the right individual, this is an opportunity to take significant commercial ownership within an established international ingredients business and play a leading role in shaping its next phase of UK growth.
