Summary

To lead the commercial development, financial evaluation and strategic performance management of M&S's embedded credit proposition and its role within the wider payments and financing ecosystem.

Working in partnership with the Embedded Credit Proposition Lead and broader SMEs from across Marketing, Tech, Finance, Legal and Procurement, this role will act as the commercial lead for the programme and Embedded Credit Proposition, owning the business case, commercial strategy, data and insight approach, partner economics and trading performance from supplier selection through contracting, design, build, launch and early optimisation.

The role will ensure the proposition delivers strong customer, brand and commercial outcomes, creates incremental value and complements existing M&S payment, credit and loyalty propositions.

What you'll do

  • Lead the commercial strategy, end-to-end business case and financial modelling for the embedded credit proposition, ensuring assumptions, forecasts and benefit plans remain robust and current.
  • Use commercial insight, customer data and MI to shape proposition decisions, assess incrementality, monitor performance and translate analysis into clear trading actions.
  • Develop the launch, trading and test-and-learn strategy with Buying, Trading, Digital, Marketing, Sparks and channel teams to drive adoption, conversion and incremental sales.
  • Own the commercial input to partner selection, negotiation, contracting and governance, ensuring pricing, economics, reporting, performance commitments and ways of working align to the approved business case.
  • Provide senior commercial leadership across design, build, launch and early-life optimisation, managing decisions, risks, dependencies, executive reporting and handover into the enduring operating model.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
