The Role
Our client is seeking a highly skilled Senior Commercial Manager to join a dynamic team and drive the optimisation of contracts and commercial performance across multiple programmes and contracts.
This role requires expertise in contract management, ensuring agreements are executed effectively whilst aligning with commercial objectives, governance requirements, and corporate policies.
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- Proven experience as a Senior Commercial Manager or in a similar commercial management or complex contracting role.
- Strong knowledge of complex contract structures, contractual obligations, commercial risk management, negotiation, and financial principles, including pricing, cash flow, margin, and value drivers.
- Experience in contract preparation, negotiation, in-life contract management, contractual change, claims management, and delivering commercially robust outcomes within governance frameworks.
- The ability to provide clear commercial insight, effectively manage risk and opportunity, influence stakeholders, and support sound decision-making aligned with business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the day-to-day commercial management of key contracts, ensuring successful delivery and strong customer relationships.
- Develop, refine, and enhance contract KPIs to ensure alignment with business objectives and performance expectations.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to establish data collection, analysis, and reporting frameworks that support root cause analysis, impact assessment, and mitigation activities.
- Negotiate, draft, and manage contracts with customers, suppliers, and government entities while identifying and mitigating contractual risks.
- Provide commercial guidance and support to operational teams and senior stakeholders.
- Lead commercial activities across the entire contract lifecycle, ensuring value for money and alignment with organisational objectives.
- Support customer and stakeholder engagement through negotiation, decision support, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Ensure robust commercial governance, contract compliance, risk management, and documentation controls are maintained.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives and strengthen commercial capability across the wider business.
- Contribute to strategic and operational objectives through hands-on commercial leadership and support.

Experience, Skills & Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years' experience developing, reviewing, drafting, and negotiating complex contract terms and conditions.
- Strong contract analysis and interpretation capability.
- Proven experience ensuring compliance with contractual obligations, deliverables, and milestones.
- Demonstrated expertise in risk management, including risk identification, root cause analysis, and mitigation planning.
- Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence at all levels.
- Broad commercial awareness and experience managing the commercial aspects of complex, high-value programmes throughout the contract lifecycle.
- Ability to balance strategic thinking with practical commercial decision-making.
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
- Experience working with government customers, public sector organisations, or highly regulated industries is desirable.
- Experience managing company or corporate insurance matters is desirable.

Essential Criteria
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline such as Business Management, Commercial Management, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Law, or a related field.
- Significant commercial management and/or complex contracting experience, including contract preparation, negotiation, and in-life contract management.
- Strong commercial and financial acumen, including risk assessment, pricing, cash flow, margin management, and commercial impact analysis.
- Proven ability to manage contractual change, claims, risks, and opportunities whilst delivering compliant and value-driven outcomes.
Desirable Criteria
- Relevant professional qualification or membership such as CIPS, WorldCC (IACCM), or equivalent.
- Experience within defence, aerospace, engineering, or other complex contracting environments.
- Familiarity with government contracting frameworks, standard contract forms, and procurement regulations.
- Experience managing company and corporate insurance requirements.
- Ability to obtain and maintain the required level of security clearance.
