Senior Commercial Manager

As we continue to expand, we are seeking an experienced and commercially astute Senior Commercial Manager to join our leadership team and play a pivotal role in driving commercial success across our portfolio of projects.

This is an exciting opportunity for a strategic commercial professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is passionate about maximising project performance while building strong client relationships.

The Role

As Senior Commercial Manager, you will provide commercial leadership across multiple projects, ensuring effective cost management, contractual compliance, risk mitigation, and financial performance. You will partner with operational teams to support successful project delivery while protecting and enhancing Ambit's commercial interests.

You will lead commercial teams, mentor developing talent, and work closely with senior stakeholders to drive business growth and profitability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the commercial management of multiple construction projects and programmes.
  • Develop and implement commercial strategies that support business objectives and maximise profitability.
  • Oversee contract administration, procurement, and subcontract management.
  • Manage project cost control, forecasting, reporting, and financial performance.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate commercial risks and opportunities.
  • Support tendering, bid submissions, and negotiation activities.
  • Ensure compliance with contractual obligations and industry regulations.
  • Build and maintain strong client, consultant, supplier, and subcontractor relationships.
  • Lead the resolution of commercial disputes, variations, and claims.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and development to commercial team members.
  • Deliver accurate commercial reporting and insights to senior leadership.

About You

You are a commercially focused leader with a strong track record of delivering successful outcomes across complex construction projects. You combine strategic thinking with hands-on commercial expertise and are confident influencing stakeholders at all levels.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Significant experience in a Commercial Manager or Senior Commercial Manager role within the construction, engineering, or infrastructure sectors.
  • Strong knowledge of construction contracts, including NEC and JCT forms of contract.
  • Proven experience managing project budgets, forecasting, and financial reporting.
  • Strong commercial negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience leading and developing commercial teams.
  • Excellent understanding of risk management, procurement, and supply chain management.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Exceptional communication and leadership skills.

Qualifications

  • Degree-qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
  • Professional membership of RICS, CIOB, or a similar recognised institution is desirable.
  • Full UK driving licence.
