At Jacobs, we're challenging today to reinvent tomorrow by solving the world's most critical problems for thriving cities, resilient environments, mission-critical outcomes, operational advancement, scientific discovery, and cutting-edge manufacturing, turning abstract ideas into realities that transform the world for good.
Your impact
You’ll help major transportation programmes make better commercial decisions, manage risk earlier and deliver stronger outcomes for clients, communities, and project teams.
- Your commercial judgement will influence projects from mobilisation through to final account.
- You’ll give project leaders the confidence to act, protect commercial performance, and find practical solutions when contractual or delivery challenges arise.
- Just as importantly, you’ll help develop the people around you. By sharing your experience and setting clear commercial standards, you’ll strengthen the capability of a wider team working across some of the UK’s most complex highways, rail, and aviation programmes.
About The Opportunity
Our Transportation business supports clients across the full project lifecycle, from strategic planning and business case development through design, delivery, and operational support. We’re looking for a Senior Commercial Manager who can provide clear, commercially grounded leadership across a portfolio of major infrastructure projects.
- You’ll work closely with project managers, technical teams, clients, delivery partners, and suppliers.
- You’ll shape commercial strategies, improve forecasting, protect margin and cash performance, lead contract change and negotiations, and make sure risks and opportunities are understood early enough to take meaningful action.
- You’ll also support procurement, supply-chain relationships, and the resolution of complex contractual issues.
This is broader than a reporting or contract-administration position. You’ll be trusted to influence important decisions, challenge constructively, and improve how projects are commercially managed. Success will mean accurate forecasts, stronger commercial outcomes, well-managed contractual risk, trusted client relationships, and a capable, engaged commercial team.
Here's what you'll need
- Substantial commercial or contract management experience gained on major infrastructure, engineering, construction, or similarly complex programmes.
- Practical experience managing commercial performance across several stages of the project lifecycle.
- Strong working knowledge of NEC contracts and their commercial mechanisms.
- Experience managing change, commercial risk, and contractual entitlements.
- Confidence providing commercial advice to project leaders, clients, and other senior stakeholders.
- Strong forecasting, financial management, and commercial reporting capability.
- The judgement and communication skills to lead negotiations and resolve challenging commercial issues.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
