Do you want to lead the commercial strategy for some of our most complex, high-value energy projects in the UK?

GE Vernova is looking for an exceptional Principal Engineer - Senior Commercial Manager to join our Electrification team based in Rugby, UK.

Job Description

Let’s Talk about the Role

The Senior Commercial Manager will act as a key commercial authority, leading our highest-value, complex tenders and shaping the contractual strategies that drive our business forward.

  • Role within the Power Conversion & Storage division: Manage end-to-end commercial operations for multi-million-pound projects.
  • Key responsibilities:
    • Lead voice in high-profile negotiations, balancing assertiveness with collaboration.
    • Protect business interests while building long-term customer trust.
    • Serve as a mentor and escalation point, guiding the wider commercial team to ensure excellence and consistency across proposal submissions.

How You Will Make a Difference

  • Lead the preparation and submission of complex, high-value commercial proposals and tenders.
  • Execute strategic redlines on terms and conditions.
  • Navigate elevated risk factors associated with first-of-a-kind technologies and new market entries.
  • Own the risk assessment process, managing commercial deviations and gathering necessary approvals.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to build robust cost structures.
  • Mentor commercial managers and new team members.
  • Represent the business with strategic credibility in front of customers and senior internal stakeholders.
  • Act as a key point of escalation for complex commercial or contractual queries within the team.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of commercial processes, templates, and risk frameworks.

Skills for Success

  • Highly Autonomous Commercial Professional:
    • Deep understanding of contract mechanics and a passion for negotiation.
    • Expertise to manage high-value contracts and complex commercial operations within large-scale industrial, energy, or infrastructure sectors.
    • Capability to influence and lead cross-functional teams.
    • Significant proven experience in commercial management within large scale Industrial, Energy, or Infrastructure sectors.
    • Demonstrated experience negotiating high value contracts and managing complex commercial operations.
    • Ability to mentor others and contribute to the continuous improvement of commercial processes and risk frameworks.

  • Educational Background: Formal education and subsequent University Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field are nice to have.

  • Security Clearance: Depending on project assignment, you may be required to hold, or be eligible and willing to undergo, UK Security Clearance (SC level) to support Defence-related contracts.
