Senior Commercial Solicitor
Our client, a Local Authority in the West Midlands, is currently recruiting for a Senior Commercial Solicitor to join the team on an initial 3-month locum contract.
The position is ideally due to start as soon as possible, can be conducted remotely, and the hourly rate is negotiable based on experience.
About the Role
The ideal candidate will have significant experience in local government law and governance, alongside a strong background in drafting, reviewing, advising on, and negotiating construction contracts, particularly NEC contracts. The successful candidate will also be expected to mentor and develop an existing member of staff through practical training and guidance.
Key Responsibilities
- Advising on complex NEC and construction-related legal matters
- Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating construction and infrastructure contracts
- Providing advice on local authority governance, decision-making processes, and constitutional matters
- Supporting construction and infrastructure projects from a legal perspective
- Advising on NEC-related disputes and contractual matters
- Mentoring and developing an existing member of staff through practical training and guidance
- Managing a varied caseload and providing pragmatic, commercially focused legal advice

Required Experience
- Extensive experience as a Corporate Solicitor, ideally within a local government environment
- Strong experience in local government law and governance
- Significant experience advising on construction and infrastructure projects
- Detailed working knowledge of NEC contracts, including drafting, negotiation, and dispute-related matters
- Experience providing practical legal advice within a public sector environment
