Senior Commercial Underwriter
Manchester | £55,000 - £65,000 DOE | Hybrid
Barker Munro Recruitment is working with a leading insurer expanding its Manchester branch. We’re seeking a Senior Property & Casualty Underwriter to drive new business growth across Mid-Market and Mid-Corporate risks.
You’ll play a key role in shaping the branch’s success—building broker relationships, leading large-case management, and underwriting profitable new business while supporting and influencing the wider underwriting team.

- Represent the business on larger, complex Mid-Market and Mid-Corporate risks.
- Negotiate coverage, wordings, and pricing alongside Trading Underwriters.
- Build and manage a strong pipeline of quality new business opportunities.
- Lead the large-case process and act as a referral point for the team.
- Develop strong broker relationships and deliver a clear distribution strategy.
What You’ll Bring
- Strong commercial underwriting expertise.
- Knowledge of the Manchester insurance market.
- Confident decision-making across varied technical scenarios.
- Coaching, development, and team-influencing experience.
- Excellent trading, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- Strong analytical and risk-assessment capability.

Working Pattern
- Hybrid working with around three days per week in the Manchester office or visiting brokers, attending industry events.
- Two days home working.
