Commercial Underwriter

Field-based £55,000-60,000 p/a depending on experience plus up to 17.5% bonus and car/car allowance 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday West Midlands, Warwickshire, Staffordshire, and Oxfordshire

Our client, an award-winning insurer, is looking for a Commercial Underwriter to build long-lasting relationships with their agency partners across the Midlands and support them in the underwriting of complex commercial cases – a role that requires technical expertise but offers real autonomy.

With this role being field-based, you will be travelling regularly to agencies across West Midlands, Warwickshire, Staffordshire, and Oxfordshire, with up to 2 days per week homeworking. A full current driving license is therefore required.

Daily Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supporting agency partners by providing expert underwriting insight, guidance, and decision making across a broad portfolio of commercial insurance risks
  • Underwriting across commercial combined, motor trade, property and casualty, and farming and agricultural insurance risks with premiums from £35,000-£100,000
  • Reviewing and evaluating complex commercial risks, negotiating policy terms within delegated authority limit, and supporting large account reviews
  • Acting as a trusted adviser, helping agency partners to strengthen their underwriting capability, improve technical knowledge, and support strong customer outcomes

Requirements

Due to the nature of this role, at least 5 years’ experience of complex and technical underwriting experience across various commercial insurance risks is required. You should be confident in developing and strengthening relationships with existing business partners and be comfortable with the travel required.
