Role Overview
Our client is a niche UK-domiciled insurer seeking to grow its UK retail portfolio, which is primarily distributed via delegated authorities/MGAs. They are seeking to recruit a senior underwriter, with the role reporting directly to the CUO.
Responsibilities
- The individual they are seeking will need to be plugged into the MGA/delegated ecosystem and have some relationships they can bring across.
- The role would involve both managing existing relationships as well as opening up market opportunities for new ones.
- The business has a constant pipeline of MGA deals they receive, and you would be part of the team that assesses these, and it would be nice if you could bring your own.
- We are looking for a team player, not a pure business developer.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
Requirements
The client is open to a variety of classes, subject to a number of caveats:
- They are focused on the UK SME segment, i.e., not large global corporate type clients.
- Motor and adjacent lines are of particular interest, e.g., MTPL, taxi, fleet, etc.
- Niche consumer schemes are also of interest.
- Warranty and ATE legal expenses are not of great interest unless the individual has a particular niche that has a proven profitability record.
