£34,766– £36,000 depending on experience

Overview

Looking for a dedicated and professional Senior Comms Officer for Victoria Collins, MP for Harpenden & Berkhamsted, Lib Dem spokesperson for Science, Innovation and Technology and Lib Dem VP to increase reach to constituents and grow her national profile.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the management and development of the external communication presence of the MP office
  • Design and develop engaging, targeted content and messages across a range of channels
  • Proactive and reactive communications with all media
  • Oversee the monitoring and updating of online platforms including the website and social media
  • Monitor media coverage, liaise with media, prepare press releases as required (on constituency, non-party political matters)
  • Prepare media briefings
  • Establish and develop appropriate strategies around social media and online presence in the constituency. Produce online graphics and video content, as well as publicising surgeries and news alerts
  • Follow up on social media queries and comments
  • There may be requirement for the role holder to work outside of normal hours and travel for work occasionally
  • Organise and support events, where appropriate

Skills required

  • Previous experience working in a communications
  • Proven ability to create compelling content across multiple channels including social media, press releases, newsletters and video
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with excellent attention to detail and the ability to adapt tone and style for different audiences
  • Experience managing social media platforms and growing an online presence, including analytics and audience engagement
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with journalists, editors and media outlets
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Able to work independently and use initiative, as well as collaborating effectively within a small team
  • Discretion and sound judgement when handling sensitive, confidential or politically complex matters
  • Strong awareness and understanding of current political issues, helpful if in science, technology and innovation policy
  • Quick learner and ability to distill complex information
  • Sympathetic to Liberal Democrat values
  • Graphic design and video editing skills (e.g. Canva, Adobe suite or equivalent)
