Job Title: Senior Communications Officer (Maternity Leave Cover)
Location: United Kingdom
Contract: 14 months fixed term, full-time (Open to part-time, minimum 3 days p.w.)
Salary: £37,993 (pro-rata to FTE)
Reporting to: Communications Manager
Start Date: October 1, 2026

About You (Principle Accountability)
Are you a dynamic and values-driven copywriter and editor, who also has a keen eye for detail and loves to simplify complex concepts? Are you passionate about respectful, sustainable, community-owned approaches to girls’ education and young women’s leadership? Do you thrive on working collaboratively across teams and timezones (North America to East Africa)?
We are looking for a nuanced communicator and content creator with a proven track record of creating and editing compelling content for diverse audiences, drawing out powerful narratives from first person stories, and nurturing respectful partnerships with clients, colleagues, donors, and supporters.
About This Role (Specific Accountability)
The Senior Communications Officer will work closely with the Communications Manager at CAMFED International, communications colleagues on the African continent, and the communications, digital marketing, and development teams. You will support storytelling and content curation, including by categorising, preparing, and editing digital content for release in internal, external, and partner communications, ensuring strict adherence to CAMFED’s child protection and safeguarding guidelines, and our communications principles / core messaging.
Key Responsibilities
Stories and Digital Content
- Responding to requests for digital content and proactively identifying tailored content to share with and demonstrate synergy with partners
- Requesting, editing, categorising, and curating client stories in line with CAMFED’s safeguarding and communications principles
- Supporting colleagues in national offices with their content collection and curation
- Categorising, organising, editing, and captioning photographic materials
- Proactive in identifying gaps in CAMFED’s content library to inform content collection trips and fulfil partner communications requirements
- Working closely with the CAMFED Association Development team to ensure young women’s stories and expertise remain at the centre of CAMFED’s communications
- Translating complex information and data into easy-to-digest shareable content that is engaging for CAMFED’s audiences
- Liaising with senior team members for sign-off

Digital Platforms
- Drafting and publishing news items, stories, and blogs on the website with an eye on visual layout, consistency, and accessibility
- Working with colleagues to keep resources on the website up to date, including with the latest KPIs, research, publications, and relevant statistics
Campaigns, Events, Media
- Contributing to awareness campaigns and fundraising appeals throughout the year
- Supporting the Events team with content as required
- Supporting with photography/multimedia requests for media or partner publications
- Other areas of work which may come up from time to time which are within the skills and experience levels of the post and which will contribute to the post holder’s development
Essential
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with colleagues at all levels across cultures and geographies
- A desire to be part of a fast-growing and dynamic movement dedicated to tackling some of the world’s greatest challenges including poverty, social injustice, gender inequality, and climate change
- A commitment to teamwork and co-creation, centering the young people we serve
- Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills with a strong commitment to ethical storytelling—particularly in the context of working with underrepresented communities
- Ability to tailor copy to different audiences and platforms
- Comfortable working independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, mission-focused environment
- Sound judgment with a solid understanding of risk and reputation management
- Skills collaborating in Google Workspace
- A track record of using the Wordpress CMS system
Desirable
- A marketing communications background
- Knowledge of Salesforce CRM, Assetbank, or similar asset management systems and design tools (e.g. Canva, Adobe Suite).
