About the Role
We have a fantastic and rarely available opportunity to work in our high performing Communications, Marketing and Engagement team. As Senior Communications Officer, you will be leading our team of dedicated Communications Officers working across PR, marketing, and digital communication.
No day will be the same and the post holder will be required to be flexible and think creatively to bring a fresh approach, from developing communication plans with service teams to protecting our reputation in emergency and crisis situations.
You will have exceptional communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across the council and advise our senior management team and elected Members. Developing excellent working relationships with local media and other stakeholders will be key to maximise opportunities to raise the council’s profile.
With an eye for detail and excellent proof-reading skills, you will support the production of our highly popular borough magazine, weekly staff newsletter and other literature. Our brand is important to us, and you will support us to visualise and embed our new values, priorities, and vision.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead a team of Communications Officers across PR, marketing, and digital communication.
- Develop communication plans with service teams.
- Protect the council’s reputation in emergency and crisis situations.
- Collaborate with colleagues across the council and advise senior management and elected Members.
- Build and maintain relationships with local media and other stakeholders.
- Support the production of borough magazine, weekly staff newsletter, and other literature.
- Embed and promote the council’s new values, priorities, and vision.
