Hnry offers a full digital accounting service for contractors, freelancers, and sole traders that handles… well, everything - automatic tax calculations and payments, invoicing, expenses, tax filings, and on-demand support from our team of accountants. We automate the entire financial process for independent earners, giving them the time they need to focus on their business, their family, and their mental wellbeing. We’re growing fast in Australia, New Zealand, and the UK - and we're always looking for great humans to join us as we do it.
As we grow, our risk and compliance processes need to evolve with us, staying practical, proportionate, and scalable.
This role sits at the centre of Hnry's compliance control environment. You will provide a second-line perspective on operational compliance work - reviewing, challenging, and quality-assuring the outputs of our compliance operations - ensuring we consistently meet our obligations as a Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) authorised agent - while also owning broader compliance responsibilities. You will report directly to the Head of Legal & Compliance.
🚀 Responsibilities
- Review and quality-assure the work of compliance operations, including incident investigations, KYC/AML and EDD decisions, and regulatory reporting.
- Identify patterns or systemic issues across operations and escalate findings to the Head of Legal & Compliance.
- Track remediation actions through to completion.
- Approve or escalate material compliance decisions before they are actioned.
- Manage the ongoing operation of Hnry’s risk and compliance framework across the UK (and supporting NZ and AU).
- Prepare and present structured risk reporting to the Head of Legal and Compliance.
- Lead periodic control effectiveness reviews and horizon-scan for regulatory change.
- Support the operational oversight of AML or Financial Crime Compliance and other regulatory processes.
- Oversee and monitor customer due diligence, monitoring, and related processes to ensure consistency and effectiveness.
- Prepare and coordinate required regulatory reports and disclosures, ensuring appropriate internal review and approval prior to submission.
- Monitor regulatory developments across the FCA and assess operational impacts.
- Conduct internal reviews ensuring documentation is accurate and up to date.
- Review and approve process changes proposed by compliance operations before implementation, and drive your own enhancements, in consultation with the Head of Legal and Compliance.
- Ensure documentation and procedures remain current, accurate, and fit for a multi-jurisdictional environment.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
