Senior Compliance Officer (12-Month FTC)
Location: London
Working Model: Hybrid Working
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Compliance Officer to join a highly regarded London law firm on a 12-month fixed-term contract.
Working closely with the Head of Risk & Compliance, you will play a key role in ensuring the firm remains compliant with all relevant regulatory and statutory requirements, with a particular focus on client and matter onboarding, AML compliance, and risk management.
This is a broad and varied position offering exposure across multiple areas of legal risk and compliance, while also providing the opportunity to mentor and support junior members of the team.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and enhance AML policies and procedures
- Review AML documentation and advise on customer due diligence requirements
- Advise fee earners on AML regulations and best practice
- Conduct and review conflict checks
- Run sanctions screening and investigate sanctions alerts
- Provide guidance to staff on compliance policies and regulatory obligations
- Assist with the implementation and maintenance of compliance frameworks
- Regularly review and update internal compliance policies and procedures
- Deliver compliance-related training across the firm
- Conduct ongoing monitoring and enhanced due diligence on higher-risk clients
- Support wider risk and compliance initiatives alongside the Head of Risk & Compliance
- Mentor and develop junior members of the compliance team

About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Previous experience working within a Risk & Compliance function at a London law firm
- Strong experience managing client and matter onboarding processes
- In-depth knowledge of AML regulations and financial crime risks within the legal sector
- A solid understanding of SRA regulations and compliance obligations
- Experience conducting conflicts, sanctions, and client due diligence checks
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- The confidence to advise and challenge fee earners on regulatory and compliance matters
- The ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with colleagues across the business
