Purpose of the Role
Undertake Train Guard responsibilities in line with industry and company standards, rules and policies in a safe, punctual and economical manner.
- Lead the on-train team and manage on-train customer service delivery and revenue duties.
- Promote the Grand Central Railway image of customer service at all times whilst on stations, on trains, or at any other time when your duties are customer facing.

Principal Accountabilities
- Ensure your personal safety and that of others at all times. Maintain a safe and tidy working environment.
- Comply with all relevant rules, procedures and policies.
- Undergo competence/proficiency assessments as required by company procedures and the Safety Management System (SMS).
- Maintain currency of route or train knowledge and notify line manager immediately of any route or train knowledge shortfalls.
- Identify, locate and where necessary rectify or suitably tend to on-train faults. Follow the correct fault reporting procedures.
- Manage on-train requirements such as seat reservations, ensuring appropriate train presentation, timely and appropriate on-train customer announcements.
- Ensure having received and understood any notices, bulletins or other information relating to job and where required confirm receipt these in the prescribed manner.
- Maintain currency of all personal publications and equipment.
- Communicate effectively with and assist staff and customers in the interests of safety and customer service.
- Wear uniform and safety clothing provided.

Abilities, Skills & Knowledge
Essential
- Thorough knowledge of operational rules, regulations, instructions relating to train guards, including company policies and standards for safe train operations.
- Excellent non-technical skills.
- Good decision maker, able to work well under pressure.
- Meets industry medical requirements for train worker.
- Team-orientated and customer focussed.
