Hybrid / Global R&D Environment / Digital Innovation

A Japanese manufacturer is currently recruiting a Next-Generation Connectivity R&D Engineer to join its Digital Innovation Research team in West London.

The role will focus on applied research and technology development in software-defined connectivity, AI, and digital services, helping transform emerging technologies into globally deployable solutions for future mobility and Software-Defined Vehicle (SDV) platforms.

The ideal candidate should have experience in connectivity technology, cloud platforms, or software-related research and development, together with strong project leadership and stakeholder communication skills.

Main Responsibilities

  • Lead applied research projects in software-defined connectivity, including technology validation and real-world testing
  • Conduct PoC development for emerging technologies such as Wi-Fi 7, 6G, network APIs, and cloud-based connectivity services
  • Develop technical architectures, documentation, and proof-of-concepts to demonstrate technical feasibility and business value
  • Drive technology maturation and transfer solutions from research environments into global product and engineering teams
  • Manage and operate cloud-based R&D sandbox environments for digital service and software-hardware integration
  • Monitor connectivity technologies, standards, and market developments to identify future product opportunities
  • Act as a technical authority for software-defined connectivity and support strategic technology decisions
  • Collaborate with internal teams, research partners, suppliers, and external organisations across global locations

Ideal Candidate

  • Degree in Computer Science, Networking, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline
  • Experience leading or managing large-scale technical projects and collaborating with research partners
  • Experience with connectivity technologies or network platforms across public and private environments
  • Practical experience with cloud platforms, API integration, and platform operations, ideally with AWS
  • Experience with applied research, product development, or digital platform development in a commercial environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work independently and collaboratively
  • Experience with automotive or mobile network platforms is advantageous
  • Master’s degree or PhD in a related field is advantageous
  • Valid UK driving licence

Conditions

  • Location: West London
  • Working Style: hybrid (up to 40% home working per month depending on business requirements)
  • Salary: around £50,000 per annum depending on experience
  • Job Type: permanent, full-time
  • Working Hours: minimum 37 hours per week
  • Start: TBD
