Our Senior Consultant Delivery Managers are experienced practitioners who know how to make meaningful change happen in the real world, not just on paper. They combine strong delivery experience with sound judgement, commercial awareness, and the ability to navigate complexity and influence decision making with confidence.
We’re looking for people who are outcome focused and adaptable, operating across product, project and programme delivery contexts, applying judgement rather than rigid process. You’ll build trusted relationships, support teams and organisations through change, and help clients make better decisions with clarity and confidence.
Alongside delivering for clients, you’ll also play an important role in supporting and developing others across Herd through coaching, mentoring, and, where appropriate, line management responsibilities.
You’ll bring a people-first approach that aligns with Herd’s “non-consultancy vibes” — collaborative, outcome-focused, low-ego, and grounded in doing what’s right for the client.

As a Senior Consultant Delivery Manager You’ll Be
- A passionate delivery manager who has experience in more than just Scrum or SAFe; you'll be able to draw upon your know-how to deliver pragmatic, high-impact outcomes for clients.
- Experienced across a range of delivery contexts, from small improvement initiatives, through to user-centred product-led delivery, and large-scale organisational transformation.
- Comfortable constructively challenging customers and colleagues when there may be a better way forward, balancing confidence with empathy and professionalism.
- A relationship builder who is able to foster long term relationships with clients in order to build Herd’s brand as a trusted partner whilst embracing ‘non-consultancy vibes’.
- Able to tell compelling stories through your work in order to influence stakeholders and support better decision-making.
- A team player who works with colleagues embracing the ‘Power of Herd’, sharing knowledge, supporting others and enhancing the overall experience our clients get from working with us.

Key elements of the role
- Be accountable for all aspects of delivery management within a specific project, product, or programme.
- Take ownership of stakeholder relationships, delivery outcomes, and escalation of issues where appropriate, proposing pragmatic options and solutions when challenges arise.
- Operate primarily in a billable consulting role, either independently within blended client teams or as part of a wider Herd team engagement.
- Lead engagements with customers across different stages of the delivery lifecycle, from early exploration and discovery through to live delivery and implementation.
- Work independently, applying sound judgement, influencing decision-making, and helping teams reach informed outcomes and consensus where needed.
- Contribute to wider professional communities and share your experiences internally across Herd and externally through blogs, podcasts, speaking engagements, and events.
- Support the growth of Herd through contributions to bids, tenders, pre-sales activities, Statements of Work, case studies, and thought leadership content.
- Support and develop others across Herd through coaching, mentoring, and, where appropriate, task management or line management responsibilities.
- Where required, support hiring activities including reviewing applications, assessment design, interviewing, and hiring recommendations.
- Embrace the reality of a growing scale-up environment and be willing to get stuck in.

Delivery People At Herd Are Skilled In Delivery Pragmatism, Coordination, Team Work, Communication, And Are Commercially Aware. Mindset Is More Important Than The Methodology, Although You Will Know When To Flex All Those Delivery Tools And Knowledge You’ve Built
- Confident with a number of delivery approaches (e.g. Agile, Scrum, Kanban, SAFe, PRINCE2) and tools; able to apply sound judgement and pragmatism to determine the right approach depending on the customer, context, and desired outcome.
- Accountable, proactive, and comfortable owning delivery outcomes, decisions, and key deliverables.
- Planning and prioritisation; able to turn objectives into realistic plans and deliverables.
- Build strong working relationships with people at all levels, across teams, functions, and cultures, and can influence senior stakeholders and help shape decision-making.
- Able to synthesise complex information and communicate in a clear and effective way.
- Confident leading difficult conversations and constructively challenging clients and colleagues when there may be a better way forward, balancing confidence with empathy and professionalism.
- Confident influencing stakeholders, facilitating discussions, and helping teams navigate ambiguity and complexity. Able to guide teams and stakeholders towards pragmatic, evidence-based decisions and delivery approaches.
- A self-starter who can identify priorities, make decisions, and work independently within complex environments.
- Comfortable presenting and defending your thinking under pressure, whilst remaining open-minded to better ideas and alternative perspectives.
- Comfortable working at pace within fast-moving delivery environments.
- Curious and adaptable, with the ability to learn new concepts, domains, and tools quickly.
- Someone who takes pride in producing high-quality, engaging, and visually clear deliverables.
- Comfortable supporting, coaching, and developing others across teams where needed.
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.

Desirable experience
- Experience working within central government, arms-length bodies, local authorities, higher education, or charities.
- First-hand experience working within the GOV.UK Service Standard.
Right to work

Security clearance
Due to the nature of the clients we work with, you may be required to undergo security vetting up to and including Security Check (SC) or Developed Vetting (DV) clearance levels.
If you have any reason to believe you may not successfully obtain the required clearance, this must be declared as early as possible and before accepting any offer of employment.
Location
You can be based anywhere across mainland UK. There will be some expectation to travel to client sites as and when needed.
You’ll also be expected to visit our Sheffield office at least once per month for team meetings. For those living within a 25-mile radius of Sheffield, we encourage regular office time where possible, typically around once per week. Outside of that, we’re completely comfortable with folk working remotely from within the UK. Due to the nature of the work we do, remote working from outside of the UK is not permitted.
