AtkinsRéalis UK Transportation business brings together the capabilities of our Rail, Highway and Local Transport teams into a single business of 3,000 talented transport consultants and engineering professionals. The unique breadth of services in Transportation, combined with our scale, makes AtkinsRéalis the leading UK transportation infrastructure consultancy. Join us at an exciting point in our journey as we launch our new Intelligent Transport and Infrastructure (IT&I) practice. We have brought together a team of 180 consultants and engineers with deep expertise across asset management, intelligent mobility, smart technology, and digital and data solutions within the transport environment. This newly formed, externally facing business is designed to align closely with our clients' evolving needs, while creating fresh opportunities for our people to grow, develop, and thrive as part of a collaborative and innovative practice.

Discipline

As a Senior Consultant in our Intelligent Mobility team, you'll help clients deliver intelligent transport systems and digital mobility solutions that are safe, reliable, and fit for purpose. Working with organisations such as National Highways, local authorities, and transport operators, you'll provide technical expertise in assurance, standards, specifications, and testing, ensuring solutions are delivered in line with industry best practice. We're seeking a technically authoritative professional with strong experience in standards development, technical assurance, and testing, who combines attention to quality and compliance with an innovative mindset to shape effective solutions, support clients, and contribute to the growth of our technical capability.

Your role

This role combines technical leadership, assurance and delivery support, helping our clients implement intelligent transport and digital infrastructure solutions that meet operational, performance and compliance requirements.

  • Provide technical leadership across Intelligent Mobility and transport technology projects, ensuring solutions align with client requirements, industry standards and best practice.
  • Develop, review and author technical standards, specifications and requirements documentation with a high degree of accuracy, consistency and attention to detail.
  • Lead or support technical assurance activities throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring systems and solutions achieve the required levels of performance, quality and compliance.
  • Apply knowledge of National Highways standards, processes and requirements to support the successful delivery of technology and infrastructure projects.
  • Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams, contributing technical expertise while supporting the delivery of integrated client solutions.
  • Mentor and develop junior consultants and engineers, sharing technical knowledge and promoting continuous learning across the team.
  • Contribute to innovation and continuous improvement by identifying new approaches, technologies and methodologies that improve project outcomes and solve complex transport challenges.

About you

  • Strong understanding of National Highways standards, specifications, governance processes, and assurance requirements, with the ability to apply these effectively within complex delivery environments.
  • Experience of authoring technical standards and specifications, demonstrating a high degree of precision, consistency, and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrable expertise in technical assurance, including the implementation of assurance frameworks, governance processes, and quality management approaches.
  • Experience in testing and validation activities, including the planning, management, execution, and reporting of testing programmes within technology, infrastructure, or operational environments.
  • Strong technical and analytical capability, with the ability to interpret complex requirements, develop clear and auditable specifications, investigate technical issues, assess compliance, and deliver practical, evidence-based solutions.
  • Collaborative and influential leader, experienced in working across multidisciplinary teams, building effective stakeholder relationships, and driving successful project and programme outcomes through clear communication and engagement.
  • Committed to people development, with a proven track record of mentoring, coaching, and supporting the growth of junior colleagues while fostering a positive and high-performing team culture.
  • Innovative and proactive mindset, able to challenge conventional approaches, identify opportunities for continuous improvement, champion best practice, and introduce new methods, technologies, or processes that enhance delivery and performance.
