About ELE

ELE works only with the legal sector. Law firms and barristers' chambers, in the UK and internationally. We write directory submissions for Chambers UK and the Legal 500, and we write the websites, reports and thought leadership that sit alongside them.

We are a small remote team and we are growing quickly. Our clients include firms you would recognise, and they stay with us because we are specialists rather than a marketing agency with a legal sideline, and because we tell them the truth about their content.

The Role

This is a senior role with a client portfolio attached to it. You would own a group of clients as their strategic lead, working with them to set the ranking ambition, deciding which departments and individuals to push, advising on matter selection and positioning, and making the argument to partners who may well push back on it.

You would also lead the pod that delivers the work. Our project managers handle timelines, drafts and chasing. You lead on strategy, ranking advice and creative direction, review first drafts against our standards, and sign off what goes to the client.

You would report to Helen Foord, our CEO, and line-manage a group of Consultants. You would also sit in the small senior group deciding how ELE grows: which services, which clients, how the agency works. We are building our processes now, and the person in this role will shape them rather than inherit them.

Being Honest About It

We are a scale-up, not a large agency. Some of our processes are new and some are still being written. You would be expected to work things out, and occasionally to fix something that should already have worked.

We can offer a fully remote job, hours that fit around your life, real autonomy over your portfolio, and a say in how the agency is built. If you want the expertise you may have built in-house to contribute to growing something exciting and valuable, this may be the job for you.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What We Are Looking For

Non-negotiables

  • Submissions expertise, not just exposure You have written and shaped submissions for Chambers UK and the Legal 500 (and others) across multiple cycles. You know how researchers read them, what a weak matter looks like, and why most submissions fail to make the case. Expertise means you could teach it, because you will be teaching it here.

  • In-house law firm experience You have worked inside a firm, in marketing, BD or communications. You know how partners think, where approvals stall, and what it takes to get a submission over the line when everyone involved is billing. That perspective is the thing we cannot train.

Beyond the Non-negotiables

  • Writing and editing brilliance. Plain English, sound structure, and the confidence to tell a partner their draft is a bit pants.
  • The presence to be met as a peer in a call with senior lawyers, and to make a ranking argument they understand.
  • Line management experience, or a clear reason to believe you would be good at it.
  • Comfort with process. We use Teamwork, and it’s important that you’re happy to work within project management processes and procedures.
  • Steadiness in submission season, when everything lands at once.
  • Working knowledge of AI tools to support human, professional writing. We use them across the business, carefully and openly, and we are not nervous about them.

Useful, but Not Essential

  • Experience of directories beyond Chambers and the Legal 500.
  • Content work beyond submissions, particularly websites, reports and thought leadership.
  • Experience of working in a remote team.

The Nitty Gritty

  • Role - Senior Directories & Content Consultant
  • Reports to - Chief Executive Officer (Helen Foord)
  • Direct reports - An allocated group of Consultants, plus pod leadership on a client-by-client basis
  • Salary - £45,000–£55,000 pro rata, depending on experience
  • Hours - 24 hours a week minimum, worked over at least four days, up to full time for the right person
  • Location - 100% remote, based anywhere in the UK
  • Holiday - 5.6 weeks including bank holidays, plus 6 wellbeing days and three volunteering days, pro rata, per year
  • Bonus - Tiered bonus structure based on salary if we exceed agency annual targets
  • Commission - 5% commission (first contract) for new clients you bring in
  • In-person - Two team meetings per year (expenses paid), plus optional coworking sessions
  • Start date - ASAP

You must be permitted to work in the UK. International employees will not be taken forward in this process unless they have a UK work permit.

About Working at ELE

Our values are Ethical, Legal and Excellent. Ethical is really important to us, in particular. We are signatories of the Better Business Charter, we are honest with clients about what a submission can and cannot achieve, and we would rather lose a piece of work than work with someone that doesn’t share our values. We’re not afraid to walk away from potential clients that aren’t going to respect our expertise and treat our professionals properly. The relationships that work best are built on mutual trust and respect, as well as a good dose of fun.

How to Apply

Send your CV and a short note to helen@ele.team. Instead of a covering letter, tell us about a submission you worked on that did not get the result you wanted, and what you would do differently now. We’re looking forward to hearing more about you!
