Project Controls Consultant
£45,000–£65,000 / Yearly bonus + Hybrid Working: Depending on experience.
About the Role
i3Works delivers measurable value across defence, private, public, and third-sector environments. We provide an extensive range of consultancy services supported by a best-in-class team, and are seeking to expand with a multi-skilled Project Controls consultant.
Your role will focus primarily on Project Controls (PC) but, in line with our cross-disciplined approach, you may also be deployed across Portfolio, Programme & Project Management (P3M). This flexibility both enriches our delivery teams and enables you to develop as a valued asset across various project roles, ensuring successful, efficient delivery.
Role Purpose
We are looking for an ambitious professional with a proven track record in planning, scheduling, and Project Controls, who can provide end-to-end input across:
- Experiences
- Leading projects within the Defence Sector (e.g., DE&S and Defence Digital)
- Delivering in Central Government (e.g., Home Office, HMRC and DEFRA)
- Managing complex construction and/or infrastructure projects
- Establishing Project Controls and Project Management frameworks/audit/assurance strategies
- Technical Expertise
- Planning and scheduling, with hands-on experience of risk analysis, planning techniques, and cost management tools/software (e.g., APM, Primavera, MS Project, etc.)
- Capability
- Handling high-uncertainty or evolving situations
- Attention to detail, with the ability to engage in ‘deep dive’ analysis
- Applied knowledge of APM methodologies (underpinned by practical PC project delivery)
- Flexible deployment across disciplines, including as PSO, Planner, RAIDO Manager, Change Manager, Project Manager, or Delivery Manager

- Provide Project Controls and project management input across client projects, while collaborating with cross-functional teams.
- Take a proactive, forward-thinking approach, anticipating challenges and mitigating risks.
- Align client and internal stakeholder expectations, ensuring mutual understanding of project goals.
- Develop and deliver solution-driven outputs that maximise business value and client satisfaction.
- Maintain transparent reporting, providing regular updates and progress reports.
Client Relationships & Business Development
- Build and nurture strong, trusting relationships rooted in understanding client needs and tailored value delivery.
- Promote i3Works’ capabilities during client engagements, showcasing strategic expertise.
- Support bid-writing, proposals, and tenders where required.
Internal Workstreams
- Contribute to internal initiatives aimed at business improvement and efficiency gains.
- Actively seek opportunities for professional development, while mentoring junior colleagues.
Experience & Qualifications
- PC or related professional certifications (e.g., PPMC, PP&C, MoR, RMP, PRINCE2, PMI-SP, etc.).
- Depth of knowledge in at least one PC discipline (e.g., risk, cost modelling, scheduling), with broad P3M awareness.
- Capacity to evolve into cross-functional roles, including PC and P3M team leadership.
- Hands-on experience with waterfall, agile, and hybrid methodologies.
- Consulting background preferred.
Security Clearance
- National Security Vetting (NSV) clearance required. Ideally, you will already hold Basic, DV and/or CVET clearance, but you must be eligible/willing to achieve it to ‘High or Very High levels’.
Role Location
- Hybrid and flexible working (aligned with client needs).
- Based in the vicinity of our Bristol office, with capacity for regular on-site presence at client locations (typically within 50 miles of Bristol or along the M4/M5 corridor).
- Open to relocation for new assignments as they arise.
