Senior Consultant - Public Sector / Local Government
Alvarium Talent are working with an independent, values-led management consultancy that partners with public sector clients to deliver meaningful, sustainable change across the sector.
The business works across a broad range of public sector clients, including Local and Central Government, Adults and Childrens’ Social Care, Housing, Education, and Emergency Services. Its work spans strategy, transformation, technology, operating models, organisational change, finance, commercial, and service improvement.
They are now looking for a Senior Consultant to join their growing consulting team. This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys working directly with clients, tackling complex problems, and turning strategic thinking into practical, deliverable solutions.
The role offers the opportunity to work across a varied portfolio of transformation and improvement programmes, with significant exposure to senior client stakeholders and the chance to take ownership of defined workstreams.
About the role
You’ll be joining a collaborative and values-led consultancy where individuals are given the opportunity to develop their careers while working on projects with a clear social impact. Your projects will vary depending on your experience and interests, but could include:
- Supporting Local Government and wider Public Sector organisations through complex transformation and change programmes
- Developing strategies, operating models, business cases, and implementation plans
- Analysing complex data and information to identify insights, opportunities, and recommendations
- Supporting organisational and service redesign, including technology-enabled transformation
- Working on programmes involving local government reform, financial sustainability, social care, housing, regeneration, or wider public service transformation
- Supporting digital, data, and technology transformation programmes
- Developing options and recommendations for senior stakeholders and helping clients move from strategy into implementation
- Managing defined workstreams, coordinating activity, and ensuring delivery against agreed objectives and timelines
- Working collaboratively with colleagues and clients to solve complex and often ambiguous problems
- Preparing high-quality reports, presentations, and other client deliverables
- Building trusted relationships with client stakeholders and contributing to the wider development of accounts
- Contributing to business development activity, including proposals, tenders, thought leadership, and client development

About you
We are looking for individuals with several years' experience in a management consulting setting who have delivered change or transformation projects within the Public Sector and ideally within Local Government. You will bring:

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to structure complex issues and develop clear recommendations
- Experience managing workstreams and taking responsibility for delivery
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with confidence presenting to clients
- The ability to build effective relationships and adapt your approach to different stakeholders
- Commercial awareness and an understanding of how consulting engagements are delivered
- A proactive, collaborative approach and a genuine interest in continuous learning
- The ability to work effectively in situations where the answer isn't always immediately clear
