Milltown Partners

Our clients operate at the frontiers of innovation - we advise technology companies driving change, global investors funding the future, the giants of sport and entertainment, and influential individuals on the communications and policy challenges that define their reputations. Our work spans corporate and financial communications, policy and public affairs to engage regulators and policymakers, policy communications and leadership communications. We underpin the full breadth of our capabilities with research-driven insights and campaigns. We're also pioneering AI-enhanced advisory work for both our clients and internal innovation, using technology to unlock insights from data at unprecedented scale and speed.

Our sport work

We support iconic brands as they communicate innovation, change and renewal, and sport is one of the busiest parts of that work. We advise investors building sports portfolios, club and franchise owners in Europe and North America, governing bodies, leagues and executive teams on the decisions behind the game: who owns it, who funds it, who governs it and how it reaches fans. That covers acquisitions and investments, multi-club ownership, governance and regulation, media rights, stadium projects, leadership transitions and crises. We are able to offer our brand and sport clients the full capabilities across the firm including financial communications, policy and public affairs, leadership counsel and research.

The role

We're hiring at the mid-level, Senior Consultant, which sits at the driving force of our client work. You'll advise directly, set strategy, manage teams, and take ownership of outcomes that move the dial for some of the most influential organisations in sport, investment and beyond. Senior Consultants operate with greater independence than their junior peers, interrogate briefs deeply, and are expected to push the quality of our work without being asked.

Our strongest candidates could come from corporate, financial or campaigns comms backgrounds but will bring a clear understanding of how the sports industry works from client work, study, sustained curiosity and personal interest. When you read about a club takeover, a new broadcast deal or a row over how a sport is governed, you don't just follow the story. You think about who is telling it, why, and what it means for owners, fans or customers, regulators and investors. You're drawn to the commercial and political complexity of modern sport. We want people who can demonstrate that, not just describe it.

What you'll do

  • Shape communications strategy You'll draw on deep knowledge of channels and audiences to position clients and tell their story – including translating complex transactions, ownership structures, governance and regulation into narratives that resonate with fans and supporter groups, leagues and governing bodies, regulators and politicians, investors, and the sports and financial press. That means working with client team leads to set strategy and priorities, building integrated communications plans, and designing research briefs that ensure advice is grounded in insight rather than assumption. Senior Consultants are expected to interrogate briefs, challenge assumptions, and bring their own perspective rather than simply delivering what's asked.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

  • Advise clients You'll earn the trust of a range of clients and deliver recommendations that are understood and acted on. You'll produce compelling written content and drive significant communications moments – major announcements, media briefings, speeches, owned-channel campaigns, events. You'll stay across the issues your clients face, from ownership rules and regulatory change to rights deals, league politics and fan sentiment, and use tools including Claude, Gemini, Factiva, and Meltwater to generate insight and support complex deliverables.

  • Drive and deliver client work You'll manage the work of junior colleagues, create clear project plans, delegate effectively, and ensure work is delivered to a high standard. Getting things done well and supporting others to do the same is central to both roles.

  • Use AI to drive better outcomes You'll use AI tools regularly to improve the quality and efficiency of what you deliver. That means applying Claude, Gemini, and our internal AI Studio to research, insight generation, and analysis at scale. You'll contribute to how we share AI knowledge across teams, experiment with AI-powered workflows, and help ensure all outputs meet our quality standards.

  • Contribute to the business You'll apply your understanding of the commercial context in which clients operate, contribute to internal projects, and bring restlessness to spotting growth and development opportunities – whether that's finding new ways to help existing clients, running teams more efficiently, or spotting where ownership changes, investment rounds, rights cycles or governance reform create a need for counsel. You'll also help build Milltown's profile in sports business circles.

  • Build a collaborative environment You'll give and receive feedback regularly, actively seek input from colleagues at all levels, and contribute to an inclusive environment where brilliant work happens.

What we're looking for

Essential:

  • 5–7 years of corporate communications experience with exposure to sport, investor, transaction-led or consumer brand clients
  • A strong working understanding of the business of sport, including ownership and investment, media rights, governance and regulation, and commercial models. This can come from client work, an in-house role, study or sustained personal interest, as long as you can show it
  • A drive to go deep into unfamiliar territory, find the angles others miss, and produce work grounded in a thorough understanding of the subject matter.
  • Strong written and editorial skills: you can take a complex brief and produce something clear, compelling, and accurate without losing the substance.
  • The ability to get up to speed on unfamiliar territory quickly and do something useful with it.
  • Experience building advisory relationships with senior stakeholders, such as owners, chairs, chief executives and investors, and the presence to hold your own in those conversations.
  • Experience developing media strategies and working with journalists across national, business and sports media outlets.
  • Experience using AI tools (e.g., Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini) effectively, safely, and critically in a professional setting.
  • Project management experience: planning and delivering work against agreed goals, timelines, and budgets.
  • Experience managing junior colleagues and delegating effectively.
  • Intellectual curiosity to develop subject matter expertise in new areas and share that knowledge with colleagues.
  • Collaborative instincts and a commitment to contributing to an inclusive culture.
