From this autumn, Barnett Waddingham will become Howden, bringing our people together as one and creating a more connected approach to retirement, benefits and risk. As you explore opportunities with us, you will see more of Howden’s name and expertise, reflecting broader capability for our clients and offering our people greater opportunities to grow, connect and develop.

We have an exciting opportunity for a (Senior) Consulting Actuary to join our team.

This role is suited to experienced members of an actuarial team who are keen to pursue a consulting career and are either working towards becoming a Scheme Actuary, or have already attained a Scheme Actuary certificate. The role typically involves developing and managing a portfolio of client appointments, acting as lead consultant on client relationships and corporate projects, and providing high-quality strategic advice to trustees and employers.

It may also include Team Leader responsibilities, working alongside colleagues involved in Client Consulting to ensure operational activities are delivered effectively, coordinating day-to-day priorities, and liaising with Partners to agree objectives and resource allocation.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
